"There really is nothing like a good glass of brandy," Roger mused, glancing over his shoulder to the new governess as she sat on the sofa. "You should try it."

Victoria tensed. He was trying too hard to be friendly. She'd heard him try to enter her room earlier that evening. Was this a roundabout way of getting what he wanted? "I have. It burns." She lifted her eyes to him, narrowing them into a glare as he took a seat beside her on the sofa.

He smirked and took a sip of his drink. "Pain sometimes proceeds pleasure, Miss Winters, or are you too young to have discovered that?"

She fidgeted nervously and scooted away from him, moving one of the pillows on the sofa between them. "I -"

Roger set the glass on the coffee table and leaned back slightly to observe her. "I must say, I wasn't expecting David's tutor to be quite so pretty." He smiled and she blushed, then shuddered. She knew he was trying too hard at the hospitality game, that he really only wanted information out of her about whoever in the world Burke Devlin was, and that he'd get it through any means possible and, damn it, it was working. She fidgeted, her blush not fading. Normally she wasn't that kind of girl.

"Thank you." Victoria swallowed hard and played with the belt of her robe, twisting it around her fingers and off again. Roger watched her for a moment, studying her movements until he reached out and grabbed her hands.

"You really must be careful." Victoria gasped and his lips curled into another one of his smirks that were quickly becoming a trademark with him. He leaned in, letting his lips brush against her jawline and she gasped again, closing her eyes and biting her lip as he trailed down her neck. He grinned against her skin and moved back up to kiss her hard on the mouth and she surrendered for a moment before pushing him back.

"Mister Collins -" Her eyes darted as though she were trying to see the back of the room to make sure the large, heavy doors were still closed.

Roger chuckled and slid his blazer off of his shoulders before undoing his tie. "And you've forgotten to call me Roger," he said, feigning sadness as he leaned back in at the crook of her neck again. hands finding the buttons on her pajama shirt and undoing them, fingers brushing against her flesh as he bit at her neck.

"Roger," Victoria gasped. She was trying to be rational about this whole situation, trying to figure out how they could go from a cordial meeting on the cliff that evening to doing unspeakable things in the drawing room. was he always like this? Was he drunk? Did it matter? She could lose her job for this. Anyone could walk right in and see them. That would be all it would take.

But it didn't seem to bother Roger at all. "I knew we could come to such an agreement, Miss Winters," he said, fingers trailing down her stomach to the waistband of her pants.

She sat up suddenly, leaning forward, arms moving around his neck as she kissed him. "Victoria."

She pulled back and he smirked, letting his hand slip underneath the fabric. "Victoria."
