Let's write about Top Secret!;

Love, love and LOVE! This is no surprise since I talk about that movie all the time, but I love Top Secret! It's the best, 80's action/comedy movie that was ever made. I don't know enough words to describe the perfectness of it.

With Top Secret!, you will laugh every 5 seconds. There are so many things going on at the same time it's unbelievable. The characters are funny, the scenes are hilarious, the actors are great even the lyrics of the songs will make you die out laughing.

For example; Skeet Surfing. How can you possibly be skeeting and surfing at the same time? The lyrics of that song are so stupid and I love it. The jingle for Macy's is quite something too since it doesn't even talk about Macy's. My favorite of all is still; Straighten the Rug.

Straighten the Rug! What the hell does that mean? Absolutely nothing. I love it~ and let me say that Val Kilmer is such a good singer! I think he didn't sang all the songs though, but apparently he sang How Silly can You get? Tutti-Frutti and Skeet Surfing.

Let me tell you that he also knows how to dance. They couldn't have picked a better actor than Val for the role of Nick Rivers really. He has Elvis' "honey voice" and the body shape of the 80's singers. He's simply amazing in that movie. He actually is worth the whole movie!

Onto the story now. I like how they start right off the bath with the "fight on the train's roof" scene. There is a joke at the end of the scene, everybody knows it, but no one expected THAT joke! It's definitely how the whole movie works. You know there will be a joke and it's gonna be stupid, but you can never expect what is actually going to happen. And when it happens you can just say, what the hell? and burst into laugh.

Nick's character is the best. He's funny, cute and talented. The other characters aren't as great as him, though they don't really have such a big part to do in the story neither. I think they are there only to filled the gaps, but they succeed in doing so.

For those who wonder, the kind of humor in this movie is really large. Like I told you, alot of things are going on at the same time. Two characters can be chatting together about something really funny meanwhile other characters are in the background doing something totally different and so much more hilarious.

I would compare Top Secret to François Pérusse (if you ever know him) some jokes are really easy to get, some are harder, some you'll get after 3-4 times of listening to them and some you'll never even get out of your whole life.

I don't wanna talk too much about this film because I can't do it without giving away the punches and jokes ;__; So I'm gonna talk about that one scene that particularly caught my attention...

The backwards scene; Nick and Hillary go into a swedish store to ask questions to the librarian. The directors actually shoot the scene backwards and then played it forward so the actors sound swedish when they speak. Let me tell you this, when you don't know it first, you can't notice it.

At the end of the said scene, they purposely added a shot that will make you realize what happened, but you're gonna be way too busy laughing your ass off to even care!

What amaze me in this is the complexity of that scene. Lets just imagine 2 seconds how hard it must have been to write it down. Also how hard it must have been to play this o__o! The scene starts by the actors entering the library by the door and leaving it by the fire pole (XD) Well in fact, when they shoot this, they first entered by the fire pole and after left by the door .__.! It's such a great technique but it gets me all confused if I think too much about it haha!

I know I said one scene, but now that I think about it, the fight into the bottom of the see scene is also quite flawless. I have no idea how they did shoot this but it's simply great!

That's seriously not all I gotta say about Top Secret! but I don't wanna spoil this master piece. Go watch it, you need this in your life. I will end the review by that specific quote I chose for you. As I said, you can watch this movie over and over again and suddenly, one year later you get a new joke you never did before.

This is my case. I've been watching and loving Top Secret! since grade 9 and I never understood the joke in that part, until now;

Nigel speaking about when he got saved by a ship while he was castaway "It was a Russian ship. They taught me all about you, imperialist swine. I was exposed to the works of great thinkers; Karl Marx, Lenin, L. Ron Hubbard, Freddie Laker"...

So much for the input XD!

I love it~
