To ease myself back into fandom, I did this fandom/pairing meme that might help you all catch up on what fandoms I'm currently freaking out over (although if you follow me on Twitter - @birdtattoo (and if you don't, PLEASE DO! I'm much more active there!) you know I'm rewatching Gilmore Girls and Chuck already, etc.)) So, read if you like! Ask questions! Tell me what you're freaking out over so we can talk and freak out together!
ALSO, I FINALLY HAVE A WORKING KEYBOARD/SPACE BAR, SO I'M 99% MORE LIKELY TO BE MUCH MORE ACTIVE AROUND HERE NOW THAT I CAN FINALLY TYPE LONG PARAGRAPHS WITHOUT WANTING TO KILL MYSELF!
1. If you write, fandoms you have written/are writing/plan to write.
I haven't written in over a year, really, but oh man. In the past i've written ER, CSI, Monk, JAG, Gilmore Girls, Parks and Rec, SNL RPF, NCIS, and probably ten other fandoms that were never posted/actually finished that are still floating around on a harddrive somewhere. I felt much more prolific than that list shows.
2. Fandoms/Pairings you are ADDICTED to at the moment:
Danny/Mindy! The Mindy Project does NOT work for me on a lot of levels (which makes me really sad), but OH MAN, Danny/Mindy absolutely do on so many levels (my MASSIVE Chris Messina problem only makes this that much worse). I'm also oddly, intensely into Masters of Sex, with Lizzy Caplan on Showtime. It's based on the actual research into/books about female sexuality/sex/sexuality in general by Dr. William Masters (played by Michael Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan), their resulting relationship, etc. It's must-watch TV for me on Sunday nights, and I am way, way too into Masters/Virginia for the show to only have aired 8 episodes. I really wish other people were watching this. Nick/Jess and New Girl in general are still working for me, and Parks and Rec (but to a much lesser extent than it used to? I still love the show, but I SWEAR, as soon as a couple officially gets together, I am MUCH LESS into them than during their courtship/pining/longing storyline. The chase is over, I guess. Nick and Jess seem, so far, to be the exception to this, as I still squee over them during basically every episode.
3. Fandoms/Pairings you like, but aren't necessarily obsessed with: I've been rewatching Gilmore Girls and Chuck lately, so I'm really into Luke/Lorelai (I'm in the middle of season four for my rewatch, so it's primetime shipping at the moment) and of course Rory/Jess, but I'm having this new (to me) issue where I'm suddenly shipping Rory - who I don't even care about that much? - with every one of her boyfriends, ever... Dean comes on screen, and i'm like, "OH, LOOK, IT'S DEAN. He's tall and they're visually pleasing together, let's watch this!" and I'm already pretty excited to rewatch the Rory/Logan stuff and I'm mourning Rory/Jess and already wanting to write everything for them, and basically I'm insane during this rewatch. And Chuck I never actually finished, so I'm near the end of season three and it's all new to me (minus some of the plot points I'd been spoiled for, of course.) So I'm enjoying Chuck/Sarah to an extent. Also, I still can't really let Tony/Ziva from NCIS go. That's a problem that is never going to get solved now.
4. Fandoms/Pairings you're new to, but enjoying:
Besides Masters of Sex, which is basically the only NEW new show I'm watching, I've managed to watch the first episode of Orphan Black and about half of the first season of Elementary, both of which I am really enjoying. I feel like there are a few other shows that I'm new to, but but for some reason I'm going blank right now. I've also kind of, somehow, gotten into Katniss/Peeta from the Hunger Games, and I'm blaming that ENTIRELY on my horrible Josh Hutcherson problem right now and I kind of want the interest I have in them to go away, but I can't seem to accomplish that. I'm also really enjoying Mom so far. Allison Janney is fantastic, and Anna Farris is pretty charming. I'm not shipping anyone, but it's just a pretty good show in general so far. (I am super, super worried about the Chuck Lorre factor, though. But I'm holding out hope for Allison Janney.)
5. You can chose one non-canon pairing you love to become canon (in a good way that the writers don't screw up). Who do you pick?
Hmm. I'm going to come back to this, because the only people I can think of right now are Marty and Rory from Gilmore Girls, and I know, I KNOW, I have a better choice than that somewhere deep down.
6. You're only allowed to read fic from one fandom (any pairing) for the next three weeks. What fandom do you choose?
Since I'm right in the middle of my rewatch, there's a mountain of actually good fic, and multiple pairings I would actually enjoy reading, I'll have to go with Gilmore Girls.
7. You're allowed to refer to your favorite 'ship only by a 'shipper name. What 'ship is your favorite and what would you name them?
Ugh no, that's the worst. I refuse to answer.
8. Two of your fandoms are going to collide in a spectacular crossover. Which fandoms would you like to see crossed?
I don't really do crossovers. I'm not that creative of a writer and it's just not typically something I'd read.
9. You have to choose between reading bad porn about your fandom obsession of the moment, or no fic at all. What do you pick?
Bad porn. A girl needs her porn, sometimes, - read: all the time - and I can make do with bad porn if that's all I'd get.
10. You're asked to pick a theme song for one character/'ship. What song do you pick, and for whom?
This is a tough question. I feel like I have so many songs that remind me of pairings.
11. It's 2 in the morning and you should be sleeping. What kind of fic do you read instead?
What KIND of fic? Porn. That's an easy answer. As for which fandom, that's a harder answer.
12. The 'ship that makes you go "Awww."
Honestly, probably Luke/Lorelai the most. Just - the build up! The history! The horoscope! He already loves her kid! He's in - he is all in. It's just the best.
13. The 'ship that makes you want to yell, "Just have sex already, you morons!"
Pretty much any ship where we don't actually get to see them have sex/the immediate aftermath is a ship I have yelled that sentence at. At the moment, that's primarily Danny and Mindy from The Mindy Project, especially after this Christmas episode. Yowza, Chris Messina.
14. The 'ship you're probably going to hell for 'shipping.
I DON'T KNOW. Maybe actually Masters/Virginia from Masters of Sex. Yes, in real life (spoiler alert but not really because it's actual real life and this is all pretty common knowledge) they end up together, but in the show I LOVE LIBBY (his wife) and I hate feeling torn between loving the wife but actually loving the husband MORE with another woman.
15. The character you alternatively love to death and want to beat some sense into.
Ugh, every character. People are idiots in TV shows too. I think Alex Karev fits into this role pretty easily. I LOVE him. He is and probably always has been my favorite Grey's Anatomy character, but oh man, can he make some fucking self destructive choices. He's a good man though. ("Alex. Alex is a good man." UGH ALEX/IZZIE WHY DID YOU GO SOUTH?)
16. The character you're almost embarrassed to admit you like is.
I don't know. Maybe Chris from Parks and Rec? I hated him so much at the beginning but now I think I might actually miss him when he goes? (I probably won't. it's just a possibility.)
17. Your very first fandom/'ship.
I was thinking about this earlier. I can't really remember the timeframe, but I remember reading both CSI and ER fanfiction pretty much roughly at the same time, but I think, and am nearly positive, that technically ER was my first real fandom - the first one I really searched for. Abby/Carter was my first pairing, at least as far as the one that got me involved in fandom. I remember shipping things back to my Babysitters Club days, and really even earlier - come on, if your little tiny child heart did not grow three sizes during Full House reruns of Jesse and Becky's courtship/marriage, I'm really not sure we can be friends any longer - but I think Abby/Carter is what really pushed me into fandom in the sense that I searched out other people interested in it and writing about it. (And, yes, I DID refer to myself as a "Carby." You're welcome for that information.) But CSI is what brought me to LJ - I have
helsinkibaby to thank for that, if memory serves, she's the one who told me about LJ in the first place. I also read a lot - a LOT - of JAG fanfic in the early days, although I never wrote it or really participated in fandom that much.
18.The fandom you could read any kind of fic in.
Even if I wasn't currently rewatching, I think I'd still probably say Gilmore Girls. it's just such a good show - minus the parts that I hate (SEASON SEVEN, I'm looking at most of you!) and I've actively searched out so many different pairings that there's still plenty of fic I'd want to read.
19. The fandom you would totally write an anonymous Mary Sue fic in.
This question basically boils down to WHO DO YOU WANT TO FUCK THE MOST? And for me, at the moment, that answer is Chris Messina, so I guess maybe The Mindy Project? I actually feel like I - or my ficitionalized Sue - could fit in pretty well with some of those weirdos, so maybe it would work. Traveling nurse who Mindy hates and Danny eye fucks in the elevator (and then actually fucks in the elevator OOPS) and then falls in love with and yeah, I need to stop now.
20. The show you would bring back from cancellation.
BUNHEADS. WHY DID THIS HAPPEN? I AM STILL NOT OVER THIS? I liked ALL of the characters, and that NEVER happens on a show with teenage girls. Dancing! Singing! High school! Kelly Bishop! WHY DID THIS HAPPEN.
21. Incorporating every fandom, what are your top five pairings?
There is no way I can put these in any kind of order - and I'm going more historically, over-time, never jumping ship SHIPS here:
- Joey/Pacey (Dawson's Creek). I am still not over Pacey Witter. One does not simply GET OVER Pacey Witter. I REMEMBER EVERYTHING, ALSO, PACEY.
- Rory/Jess (Gilmore Girls). Ok. This is more futurefic based, but come ON, these two ended up together, and there's really no telling me otherwise. Once Jess grew up, no one can convince me that they weren't right for each other.
- Monica/Chandler (Friends). Every time I think I'm over them, i remember Chandler telling Monica that he doesn't mind that she's high maintenance because he likes maintaining her, and someday, a guy will say something similar to me and all will be right in my romantic life and I'll be the bossy on in the relationship and basically I am extremely Monica-ish and desperately need a Chandler.
- Tami/Eric (FNL). Really, how can they not be on this list? I think if you want to get married in the future and they're not somehow the couple you're modeling your marriage after, you should reevaluate those life choices.
- Cappie/Casey (Greek). Ok, I think I'm just really nostalgic for college this week, because normally they wouldn't make this list, but I miss this show (it doesn't help that Beaver was just in an episode of Gilmore Girls and I remembered how oddly attractive I find him.) And Cappie was just so great and they FOUGHT and had so much passion, and oh man, that pilot episode with them playing pool still just wrecks me and "no other girl in the world compares to you" and "this is where I first knew I loved you" and fuck now I have to go rewatch some of their scenes.
