“Claire? CLAIRE?!” Sylar rushed through the house they shared, desperate to find his wife. Molly had told him that she had been unable to locate her, but no, that couldn’t be right. That’s what he told himself, at least. Molly was probably just sick again, not that that was a good thing, but it was the only acceptable thing. To make matters worse, she couldn’t locate his son, her brother, either, but that just wasn’t possible. The only other time that she had had trouble finding someone, that was when they were dead, and his wife and son being dead? That was unacceptable.

She had gone to take Noah to his doctor’s appointment that afternoon after they’d had sex in the morning. She’d kissed him good bye and told him that she loved him, and he’d told her that he loved her too. They were good together, they weren’t fighting much anymore, they knew what the other had done, and they were planning on how they were going to get out so they could leave, well, as normal lives as possible. She wouldn’t go out and kill herself, he knew that, especially not with their son no matter how bad of a life she felt that this was for him to grow up in. He knew her better than that. Something had had to happen, but he had no idea what could have happened.

“Sir?”

Sylar froze, panic running through him, and for a moment he just stood there. Still in the form of the psychotic killer, he couldn’t turn around before he was back in the shape of the president, but that, for some reason, seemed difficult. He took a deep breath though and managed to calm himself down, shifting back to the man that most knew him as and gave the woman a small, slightly nervous smile.

“Hello, Wendy, you haven’t seen Claire, have you?” he asked, trying his best to keep his voice steady, though there was a slight waver in it that he just couldn’t hide. She looked nervous at that, and his eyes widened.

“No, sir, that was exactly what I came to ask you about. We found Ms.Petrelli’s car, on fire…” she started, and Sylar couldn’t stop the soft whimper that passed his lips, and he had to reach out to steady himself against the wall.

“Oh…God.”

“Sir? It’s alright,” she started and he scowled at her, making her quickly shake her head. “I mean, of course, it’s not alright, but, there was no evidence of a body, or bodies in the vehicle, which means your wife and son weren’t in it when it was set fire to.”

“Oh, that’s…that’s good,” he said, breathing out a sigh of relief to that, and then closed his eyes tightly. “What…do you have any idea where she might be?”

“No, sir, I’m sorry, we don’t. We’re currently checking all cameras that were around the location and such, but, we should have a press conference as soon as possible. If the kidnappers have demands, they’re bound to be waiting for you to acknowledge the fact that your wife is missing before they call with their demands. I know this must be difficult, but we must act soon…” she continued, her voice always firm and almost void of emotion, that was until Sylar slowly leaned against the wall and sank down to a sitting position, another whimper passing his lips. “Sir…I’m sorry. We’re doing what we can.”

“I know you are, and, that’s very good,” he nodded, looking up at her and forcing a small smile on his face. “Set everything up for the press conference, and we’ll do it as soon as possible. Have her picture, and Noah’s plastered on every news channel, and…and get me her parents, they deserve to hear it from me, rather than on the news.”

She nodded at him and then hurried off, clearly uncomfortable with the situation and not sure how to deal with him sitting there on the floor, but he didn’t mind. He was actually glad that she did leave, because he could shift back to his true self.

Claire was gone. Kidnapped. Taken from him. It wasn’t fair. Of course, one could perhaps view it as karma. He took things from others, so someone took something from him. He didn’t see it like that though, and he silently vowed that he would stop at nothing until he had her back in his arms. He loved her, after all, and no one could take the ones he loved away from him.
