“You brought this upon yourself, Elle, there wasn’t any other way,” Sylar said softly as he looked down at the lifeless body of the only woman other than his mother that could have ever loved him for who he truly was. But the person he was, deep down under everything, that person was a mere shadow of who he was now; and he didn’t want to go back to being just a shadow.

“We could have saved each other, Elle. You and I, we could have been together! Didn’t…didn’t you tell me that if you hadn’t done as told, you would have been fired for going against orders, and then disowned by your father, or something like that?” he asked thoughtfully, and brought a hand up to run his fingers through her hair, the words being followed by a soft sigh.

“I wouldn’t have minded it if you had. Well, obviously I wouldn’t have known what was wrong, but if you had lied and told me that you had lost your job and were losing your apartment too, I would have helped you out. I would have let you move in with me if you had wanted to. Of course I would have, because you were my angel, Elle,” he said, and then leaned down to kiss her forehead. “You were my angel with a broken watch.”

He laughed at that and laid back in the sand, closing his eyes tightly as his body shook.

“Think about it. If you hadn’t brought that guy, Trevor, over, we could have been together. By now, maybe we would have even been engaged, I was falling in love with you already. Mom would have loved you, I think. Well, Mom would have loved anyone I dated, so obviously she would have loved you, when she saw how much I cared about you.”

Gabriel sighed heavily as he pushed himself up off the ground again, and then looked down at Elle’s body.

“We could have had it all, Elle,” he said as he picked up the canister of lighter fluid he had gone and gotten after he had killed her, and started to pour it onto her body. “You and I, we could have had it all. We could have had what was normal, you wanted to be normal after all, and, and so did I, at that point. I wasn’t exactly fine with it but I would have been fine with you. Maybe we wouldn’t have been just us though, for the rest of our lives. We could have had kids, two point five children, and a little blue two story house and a white picket fence around it. A picture perfect family.”

He laughed again and then tossed the canister aside, and gave her a final look over.

“Good bye, Elle,” he said, and with that he zapped her; her ability finally being her death. She had asked him to kill her at one point after all, and as they say, you should be careful what you wish for.

“We could have saved each other.”
