heroes15 Rain

”Gabriel Gray, you get right back in here this instant! If you stay out there you’re going to catch your death.”

Gabriel just laughed at that, shaking his head. “I’m fine, Leonard. I’m better than fine, really. I’m fantastic.”

The rain had started in the later morning, and by midday it was pouring. Gabriel had then been unable to resist the temptation of it, and knowing that Leonard would haul him back in if he tried to just go out, he’d snuck out when he was busy. He’d been standing in the rain for a good fifteen minutes before the other man had noticed that he was missing, and by the time he had he was soaked through.

“Gabriel!”

“If you want me to come back inside, you’re going to have to come out here and drag me back in.”

He loved the rain. He always had, and it had been a long time since he had had the chance to stand outside during a storm and let the water wash over him. There were gentle rolls of thunder in the distance, but they weren’t close enough so that he was worried about lightning, no, that would take a while.

He hadn’t been expecting Leonard to actually come get him. Instead he’d planned on going in a few minutes after he heard the door slam, endured the yelling he was bound to receive before trying to coax the other into taking a warm shower with him where he would hopefully be forgiven.

The arms wrapped around his waist then, and he laid his own arms on top of them as he rooted himself to the spot, not ready to go in now that he had the other outside.

“Don’t you just love it when it rain?” he asked, his head tilted up as the rain poured down on it, before he turned it slightly to kiss his lovers cheek.

“It’s just rain…” Leonard started, but Gabriel shook his head, and turned in his arms, leaning back and taking his hands so that he could pull him further into it.

“That’s where you’re wrong. It’s not just rain. It’s…it’s like a rebirth of the world. The rain comes and washes all the filth away, making room for new life. Rain encourages everything to grow, after all, and…it’s perfect,” he explained, a bright smile on his face as he took in a deep breath. “And smell it, Leonard. Just smell it.”

“You sound like a hippie,” he told him, though Gabriel could see that there was a twinkle in his eye, which lead him to pulling him close and kissing him.

“You love it,” he murmured softly, and nibbled at his lower lip. “You think that I’m a breath of fresh air.”

He took his hand and started to lead him down the road at that, towards a grassy patch where he lied down on his back, dragging the other down with him, too.

“We’re both going to get sick now,” Leonard grumbled, but he still joined him, stretching out next to him in the wet grass.

“Well, if we do, we’ll at least be together in our misery,” Gabriel replied with a laugh. He had already closed his eyes, and his hand moved to find the other man’s, and gave it a gentle, loving squeeze. “Relax. Just let yourself go, and live in the moment.”

“Hippie,” he repeated at that, and Gabriel turned to him, leaning over to kiss his cheek.

“I love you too, Dr.McCoy.”
