CaroMehl08: hey its caroline mehl, i'm writing an article for rampage about girls ditching davening and its totally anonymous and i wanted to know if i could interview u?

CaroMehl08: so i've noticed that there a group of junior and senior girls who are often in the C bathroom during davening, and i so i was wondering how often would u say u ditch davening?
ROMYCOM: id say probably around every other day but i usually dont leave for the entire davening
ROMYCOM: maybe sometimes its more often than that
CaroMehl08: how long do u think u stay in the bathroom for?
ROMYCOM: i usually leave after shmona esrei and come back when davenings over
ROMYCOM: so i guess that would be around....15 minutes or so?

CaroMehl08: would u say those same juniro and senior girls are there as often as u?
ROMYCOM: yeah, at least as often.
ROMYCOM: i mean, its not that none of us daven at all. i usually finish saying shmonah esrey before i leave, if i leave at all.
CaroMehl08: so what makes u want to leave usually?
ROMYCOM: its sometimes annoying to just sit in a room for a long period of time, when youre finished davening and teachers yell at you to stop whispering even when youre clearly not bothering anyone.
ROMYCOM: plus we dont get a lot of time during the day to socialize so some people take that time as an oppurtunity
ROMYCOM: and then theres always the huge workload so sometimes you just need to finish an assignment before first period that you didnt get to complete the night before
CaroMehl08: when did u start ditching?
ROMYCOM: well since freshman year, if got really restless during davening i occasionally went to the bathroom on c but ive probably done so more habitually this year and at the end of last.
CaroMehl08: so u know that whole group of girls who are usually in the bathroom with u?
ROMYCOM: the thing is, i dont really consider it "ditching davening" because its not like we come in 40 minutes late to school or even stay somewhere else in school for the entire length of davening, we just leave for short periods
ROMYCOM: yeah
CaroMehl08: so how many girls would u say are in that group and how many are junior and how many seniors?
ROMYCOM: there are usually around 6 to 8 people on any given day
ROMYCOM: probably 2 or three juniors and the rest seniors
ROMYCOM: i cant really put a set number on it because its different every day and usually its the same people but there are other people who come there to have a break from davening too
CaroMehl08: would u say u became friends w/the seniors because u guys were all there at the same times or were u friends first and then all went together?
ROMYCOM: its probably a combination of the two. i was friendly with some of them beforehand but we definately got closer -sounds wierd but yeah, in the bathroom

CaroMehl08: like any feeling about how teachers treat u

ROMYCOM: yeah i think that if teachers were less reproachful of students who are conversing but not bothering anyone during daving, than kids wouldn't feel the need to leave the room as often
ROMYCOM: also, i dont really think that going to the bathroom for sometimes as few as 5 minutes can really be considered ditching davening, especially since teachers do have to take into account that not all students may be able to have the proper kavana at all times and in those cases, might need a break from a 40 minute davening period

ROMYCOM: i got sent to the office once, other than that ive only been sent back to the auditorium
CaroMehl08: and what'd they say to u in the office?
CaroMehl08: were u actually punished?
ROMYCOM: i wasnt actually punished but that time i really did stay outside for longer than usual
ROMYCOM: and after that i didnt stay outside for such long periods
