Well, its high time I wrote an update on my junior experience thus far... and I'm looking for an excuse to put off Spanish homework just a little longer.
This semester I have six classes, which is one more than last semester, but I'm no longer working at the movie theater (what a relief!) My two Spanish classes are back to back Monday, Wednesday and Friday with the same teacher. The first one is 19th and 20th Century Spanish Literature. So far that class is going well- we just finished reading Don Juan Tenorio (the famous play about the notorious lover of countless women) which was actually very good. Now we're reading a book called Nazarin, but that is definitely very hard to get through... we'll see how that goes. My second Spanish class is EXTREMELY hard even though its by the same professor... it's probably just because its a higher level and has a bunch of native Spanish speaking graduate students. The class is on Spanish Romanticism and the first book we read was basically unreadable. Luckily, the one we are reading now was very interesting. These classes are definitely going to take a lot more time than my Spanish classes usually do, but I guess that's just what happens when you get older.
I'm taking 3 film classes this semester and they all seem very fun so far. Lighting is a 4 hour long class on Wednesdays. We're getting a lot of hands on experience and it seems to be very fun, but the teacher is verrrrrrryyyy intense. Cinematography is a 3 hour long class after Lighting, which makes my Wednesdays very difficult- 9 hours in one day- yikes! However, the teacher is very cool. He looks just like popeye and is a very laid back kind of guy. We spend all of last week shooting a scene outside by Fenway. One crew shot the actual scene and the other crew shot "the making of." I was the making of sound operator, which was fun. So far that class seems to being going well, but its disappointing that they can't rent equipment to us because we won't get any practice outside of class. Finally, Editing is a great class so far. Alex and I edited a scene last week from this TV show about lawyers called "Civil Wars." It was a very bad TV show, but still fun to edit. This week we're editing a scene from NYPD Blue.
Finally, I'm taking a class at the New England School of Photography on Digital Still Photography on Thursday nights. I've only had one class so far, but it seems like it will be a really fun, laid back class. The only sad thing is that I'm the youngest person in the class and have by far the most camera experience. However, I also probably have the last expensive camera. A ton of these adults in my class has super nice cameras and super nice lenses but they have no idea how to use them! Oh, to be a college student.
Anyways, I best get back to work. I have so much to read for Monday and I'm going to hang out with my friends later.
More soon... hopefully :)
