OH UGH. I'm kind of scared to go read that interview now. THE RAGE, I can feel it rising pre-emptively!

That's just...argh. I can think of at least one article, written by a guy, debunking the finale in very detailed and epic terms based simply on the narrative logic and scientific fail.

And the idea that women are worst-placed to identify sexism because we have a vested interest is something that never fails to make me want to throttle...things.

I don't need to go into all the reasons why dismissing shippers is sexist because you already laid it out. But also, as someone who shipped pretty much NONE of the major ships by the end, to say that the show itself didn't actively build them up as a major element of the show is a slippery and unworthy argument. Sure, this show was nowhere near as based around a single power-couple as, say, Farscape was built around John and Aeryn. It was more an ensemble piece and that means that perhaps LESS of the overall narrative was tied to these particular couples. BUT, even if there was a central series of mysteries around which the plot of the show was built, to brag about how you wrote the finale the way you did because, "it's the characters, stupid!" and included resolutions (however satisfactory/unsatisfactory to various factions) for nearly all the relationships, many of which became a major feature of those characters' interactions with each other, and were facets of the characters RDM was determined to write about, and then to turn around and declare that the viewer's focus is incorrect, that they SHOULDN'T, in fact, care about the characters and their relationships with each other is...

Dumb just about starts to cover it?

*gets ragey and ranty too cus it's been that kind of a week!*

Yeah, and as Nicole pointed out, the interviewer was sympathetically questioning him about the science fail, and he immediately deflected by girl-bashing, which the interviewer was only too happy to join him in. Hmm!

Oh, it's not 'cuz we're women! It's just 'cuz we like one or more female characters! If we didn't care about any of them, we could totally be capable of putting together a valid argument about how they were treated! :D? :D?

to say that the show itself didn't actively build them up as a major element of the show is a slippery and unworthy argument.

Ahaha. Yes! Because they totally did build up those relationships: Kara and Lee had an entire episode devoted to their relationship, plus all the endless teasing of the Quandrangle of Doom, and what were they thinking if they didn't mean for fans to care about that relationship? Meh.

My god, we've broken out the Braveheart again. I feel there should be some way I can use this as a response for everything on the internets.*g*

"The AlmightyRDM tells me he can get out of this mess, but he's pretty sure we're fucked. "

I'm going to bed now after that shameless paraphasing.
