I've had a new boss at work for a couple months now (best.boss.ever.) and being on day shift has worked out in my favor ($40 raise on my eval and that's after getting a final written for throwing $8000 in checks in the dumpster). So, what happens when things in life are going well? That's right, fate decides to be an asshole.
Holly, (second in line to best.boss.ever.) contracted the virus Parvo a couple years ago. (
What's Parvo?) She would have flair ups causing arthritis, hives, swollen glands, etc. and have to take time off of work, but she's very stubborn and you would never know she was in any pain. Since there's no cure for the virus, she would be prescribed medication during the flair ups and told to rest.
When I first started on days she was talking to me about the virus and said as much as it sucked having it, she was just happy it wasn't something worse. Fast forward to present time and now she has Stills disease. (

She found out about this about a month ago and has been driving to Iowa City periodically for tests. Her doctor told her there are three stages, none of which are curable. They were hoping she was in the second stage, which is easier to treat, but she found out last week that she's in the final stage. All I know so far is that she will most likely be prescribed with Chemo pills. Wonderful.
We've taken up a collection at work to help her with her medical expenses. She said she can't afford to quit her job and that if she didn't have a car payment she wouldn't be stressing out so much. We convinced her to apply for the Sunshine Fund at work (employee assistance program) and we're hoping she qualifies for that. If she can get that plus the money from our collection, we would like to raise enough to pay off her car (approx. $3000).
Shawna and Randy, if you guys could speak w/people at RC and see if they'd like to pitch in I would be very grateful. A lot of the cashiers at my property are new and haven't worked with her as much as the rest of us, so they're not as invested in this as I know some others would be. If you think there would be quite a few interested, let me know, I've got a card I could bring in for people to sign.
I'm not sure how much longer Holly will keep working, I'm still waiting to see how her last appointment went. I think this is the one where she finds out what kind of medication they'll be putting her on and how it'll affect her. Like I said, she's very stubborn, so I'm sure she'll be around for a little bit longer, but she might be taking a leave of absence for a couple of months.
