Pattern Review Butterick b5403

So I am just wrapping up making a pair of pants that follow a more jean like pattern.

Butterick patterns have to be a bit easier to follow then simplicity . but just by a smidge. This pattern has taken me about two weeks of working on it to get a semblance of a pair of jeans. Even though it was recommended by the pattern that i am a 3x. It became really apparent that i had to take of at least 6-8 inches in the hips and waist....while this would be normally awesome for me . I know i did not loose weight. So it became apparent that this pattern has A LOT of Give/ seam Allowance . I fit a 60 inch in the hips this pattern should of been 62 at the most ....it turned out to sit at 68 inches in the hips and waist...waist should be 46-48 inches and i sit at 47 . I'm hoping that washing them will help with the extra due to it being a stretch twill. im also hoping it will close the holes that are there from my first try.

Things i learned and will do next time.
sew a smaller size for me in this pattern.
or
- take off 1 1/2 inches up the legs and 2 inches on each piece of the legs outer area for me .
-move front pockets accordingly
-sew all the way up to where the bottom of the zipper hits in the front . i had to hand sew the crotch area closed due to this area not matching up propourly
-pockets sit to low. they needed to be moved up at least 3 inches
- make a zipper flap sewing guide so that the zipper flap is sewed straight and with a curve.
-when fitting the waist work at making the band fit the pants.....its easier to take the band in and that is why it is joined in the back for sizing .
-make sure you clip curves they sit better

overall i am happy . i will post a pick after i get them to head through the washer .
