POST-CONCERT MADNESS

Sep 10, 2010 16:28

It's time for a freakin' write-up.

WHERE DO I BEGIN

Okay, well, the ride down was long but not that bad. Skylar was bored out of his brain and I keep making typos but the radio wasn't bad and my butt didn't fall asleep! ALSO TIK TOK

We made it to the venue about... a half hour early, at five o'clock, and we waited in line and it was cold I think. I mean, I didn't think it was that cold because I have padding but Sky is a skinny little white boy, so. AND THEN WE WENT INSIDE And they made us pour out our water bottle.

WE

GOT

FRONT

We were right up against the bar next to the stage oh man I went so deaf. Skylar's arms got bruised from leaning over and I probably should have picked him up at some point and tossed him onstage so he could molest Tim Convy.

CONVY IS SO A WORD, SPELLCHECK

First was Tommy and the High Pilots, which has Matt Palermo (Ludo's drummer) on drums. They were good, even if the sound system at The Metro made everyone sound more high-pitched than they should have. Their guitarist was this big bear guy in blue plaid and that might not sound cute, but he was really enthusiastic so it was adorable! Tommy played backup guitar for Ludo, too, but I'll get to that later.

Then was The Graduate, which I can remember very little from but I know that they were good! And cute. EVERYONE WAS HOT! I don't get it, all the band members from all the bands? They were foxy.

And then there was There For Tomorrow, which I didn't remember I knew until they were right about to come onstage. They did the song that I knew first, Just A Little Faster, and I knew it from... well, if you watch the video or even just open it up, you'll see. I didn't know any of their other songs, but they were good too! None of the opening bands sucked, which I thought was strange. You could tell There For Tomorrow loved being musicians, though - they were soaking up the attention like leather-clad, faux-hawked sponges.

AND THEN LUDO CAME ON.

When they were setting up, I made eye contact with Tommy (from Tommy and the High Pilots) and I waved at him, and he grinned. ♥

First they played Go-Getter Greg and Andrew Volpe was making the most amazing faces. He's got a great facial range to complement his vocal range!

Next it was Hum Along which was all I could do because I didn't know the words! But Skylar sang along next to me so it was all good ♥

They talked about the future here! And then they were all, "Who doesn't have a future? Three college boys from Missouri." which means LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN. Oh it was glorious. They had us sing lines here and there which is to be expected and oh man Ludo has so much stage presence it's insane.

And after that was Too Tired to Wink. MMMMM. The new album is AMAZING, guys - if you like operatic rock, you should check out any of the links provided. I know we showed some to Xhan right before Skylar came so YEAH HERE'S LINKS

Then they were like THAT'S THE NEW STUFF, HERE'S OLD STUFF and the played Broken Bride Part I. (I can't find a decent link for it! But I can find a torrent for it if you want.) The entire Broken Bride EP is so lovely and heartbreaking, guys. If you liked anything you might've listened to on here, I suggest looking it over. It's also got Save Our City on it, which is an amazing song.

Then.

Air humping.

Seriously, though - next came Whipped Cream. Volpe commanded us to hump the air the same way in that video you might've just watched, so we did. And then he was like 8U THAT WAS TERRIBLE HUMPING so next chorus we humped the air again and OUT OF CONTEXT THEATER TIME

Skylar: "Tim Convy complimented me on my humping."

Then it was Good Will Hunting By Myself! This is Sky now cuz Froggy can't remember things but it's just for this part because dude, I have a shit memory, okay? Uhmm. So basically before this song Volpe was like SUP DUDES, I GOT MARRIED, and we were all EHEHEHEHE or at least Froggy and I were (I'm sure some demented fangirls wanted to kill themselves at one point idek). And then he was like |8 I wrote this song for one of my ex girlfriends and OH GOD he sweared so much more than normal in this version haha. "BUY YOUR OWN FUCKING GAS YOU BUG EYED MOOCH" aaaand instead of just "and I'm going to get on your little sister just as soon as she gives me a call back", he was like, "and I'm going to take your little sister to Six Flags over America and do her there" and oh god it was so ace. He also totally molested his guitar like he did in Columbia except it was...a lot more thorough...and...really gay ... OKAY BACK TO FROGGY

Next came Rotten Town which does not have any Youtube links up! But it sounds like... tangoing. It's a song about self-loathing pirates! And oh, the flames were as gooold~ I have no idea if it's my favorite album or not but omg I love it so much. It's up there with Skeletons on Parade which also doesn't have YT links but but they're both off the new album.

And then it was time for Save Our City which, while amazing, didn't have the sense of community from the crowd that I'd hoped it would. BUT WE WERE STILL AWESOME DURING IT. It's also the inspiration for one of my new tags - "anything can be a weapon". That quote is finished with "if you're holding it right", but tags are too short. Still, it's one of my and Skylar's favorite lines, so on it goes!

As a finisher, they had Love Me Dead. It was intense. I just, mmmm I love that song so much. After that, they walked offstage.

...AND THEN WE CALLED THEM BACK FOR ONE MORE SONG

Just like in Columbia, they finished for real with Girls on Trampolines. Eeeeheehee. He didn't mess up (like Sky told me he did in Columbia)! And, at the end, we chanted the last lyrics: "God bless the wisdom of Officer Three, just give them girls on trampolines!"

Awesome.

But the night was not over.

In between T&tHP and The Graduate, I ran down to buy Prepare the Preparations, because if you did you got a wristband that guaranteed a chance to see Ludo and the rest of the bands after the show. After the concert ended, we filed down the stairs and waited a little while in line. When we got into the merch room where the bands were signing things, the girl from coat check offered to get me our CDs (since I had to check them). SO NICE

So when it came out turn, Skylar was having trouble unwrapping his CD and the big blue plaid bear dude helped him get it unwrapped. I said hi to him! But I got my CD unwrapped on my own. AND AND, Skylar said he was a total bro. There you go Sky. Then we got up to the signing spot, and I'll let Skylar tell the next part-- OH WAIT he'll just keysmash, okay, I'll tell it.

Skylar handed off his CD to have it signed and then he stepped up next to Tim Convy, who recognized Sky from Columbia. Not just "hey i think i remember you" but "Oh, you were the kid from Columbia! We talked about Tessa, right? And you had glasses!" And then they brofisted and blew it up and I took a picture. C:

Next I introduced myself to Convy, and Tommy was standing right next to him aaand this is silly because I didn't even know the band before, but Tommy recognized me from the crowd. Teehee. ♥

After we got our CDs signed, we moved over to the other merch table and they were closing down, but they let Skylar buy a shirt! I wanted a hoodie but they didn't have any in my size, which I guess is alright cause they still have stuff online.

Then we walked outside and chilled across the street and chatted for like a half hour and we gave a dollar to a homeless shelter! And then my mom came to pick us up and we listened to Prepare the Preparations on the way home.

Once home, I proceeded to get lost in Silent Hill 2 and Skylar passed out on my couch.

ALL IN ALL, A GOOD FUCKING AMAZING DAY.

And we still have a couple more to go. :>

anything can be a weapon, we're a flock now, not enough tiiiime, omgomgomg, science to do, i feel so boss right now
