i spent a good part of this morning at work hacking away at the ice slide formerly known as our main employee entrance while it was thawing.

i spent a good part of late this afternoon whacking icicles off my house, doing some mountaintop removal on the snowdrifts, raking the snow off the roof, chipping the ice off the steps, chopping the ladder away from the ice that had it stuck on the side of the house, shoveling out the sides of the driveway so that there's more room to walk around the cars, and carving out the opening between the driveway and the street so that it's easier to get in to the driveway without banging someone else's car or getting stuck in a snow drift.

carpe diem, and whatever, because today it was finally significantly above freezing (like what, five or six degrees? maybe seven?), which meant melting, and tomorrow it's going back down to never-thawing-out for awhile. truth is i love this shit, partly because i've turned into someone who likes taking care of things, and partly because now that i'm finally over the sinus-infection-of-months-of-death it feels amazing to be alive in my body again, completely badass and healthy and getting things done.

also, there's a place on the northeast corner of the house that gets no sunlight, ever. you ought to see the insane icicles that grow there. i should've taken a picture before i balanced the roof rake on end to send them skittering everywhere, laughing derangedly because it was so damn funny. i may have to take my ax (!) and lean out the window to get the rest of the frozen waterfall. either that, or take up ice climbing on the side of my house.

that said -- thinking i'd be able to come back to the office and type for awhile without my wrists on fire was dumb. really dumb. oops. maybe i'll write my board report in stereotypical haiku:

quality programs
kids and volunteers happy
staff fine, broke as hell
