and class hasn't even started yet

grad school is a close second to octogenarian poets on my list of people/things that i lust after. everything is so bright and shiny here; if the recession is hurting this place, i certainly can't tell. i love my small town above all else, but i live in a decrepit house and i work in an even more decrepit house and my work these days is all about how there is no money anywhere. coming here feels like the time i went to new york for that fraternity gathering -- although lots of money kind of makes me cringe, it also makes everything feel so *easy*.

anyway, it's the little things: like the grad student study spaces that you need a code to access, my very own locking book cart (so cool!!), the gym with machines that actually work, and a sauna in the locker room for everyone. it's also beautiful here -- flaming sunrise over the salt marsh where my friends' cabin is, mottled sunset over the brick buildings, somehow there's some forested space in the heart of campus, so i can get from place to place on a footpath through the woods. obama on a big screen with friendly people from my program. a professor with an extra Sweet Honey in the Rock ticket for next monday night up for grabs -- i got there first! so excited!

and i'm so fortunate to have two dear friends be so welcoming -- long dinner and catching up last night, and the homeopathic potion brother m. suggested for my terrible cat allergies *actually worked*. i won't have to take benadryl in order to stay with my friends! also -- i was able to give them something i've been wanting to give to a new home for quite some time, just hadn't figured it out. but this, deliberately vague, was perfect, and made me so happy.

so, with a place to stay and a place for my car and a place for my things it so far feels very possible that this will work. the classes will ultimately decide how long i stick around. but the amenities are pretty damn good.

if only my class weren't from 6:40-9pm on tuesdays. feel free to call and keep me entertained during my drive home! (ahem, monkeyhippy that means you.)
