If you've been to my house this winter, then you know that it's a typical loose New England house -- which is a pretty way of saying that arctic winds blow through every room. If you haven't said anything to my face, then you're very polite and I thank you; if you haven't noticed, then you're a polar bear and I'm not sure what to make of that.
Solutions to breezy houses include: weather stripping, new windows, storm windows. We've got all three. Except until yesterday we didn't have a storm window for the front screen -- we're assuming that's what the shards of glass in the corner of the basement used to be. Long story short, the ever-friendly folks at the evil chain home improvement center suggested I cut a sheet of plexiglass to fit the gap. So much more invisible than plywood, and easier to deal with.
And lo! frog did purchase a piece of plexiglass, and her housemates did cut said plexiglass, and did fit the glass into the hole. And behold! there is no more arctic wind in the living room. And behold! the stove's heat reaches much farther. And behold! frog sat on her couch yesterday without wearing a heavy sweater and a hat, and was warm, and it was good.
Of course, this means I am even less inclined to leave my house for the rest of the winter. Plus, I went on a poetry and garden book buying binge this weekend, and have more than enough good books to last me until spring. O, home.
