Upbeat Distractions

Since I've been glued to CNN.com since about 10 this morning, I've decided that I've got to distract myself with something else. Work's no fun, so I'm here. But first let me say that my heart is just broken. I hate that anyone has to lose their life, but to lose it in a place where you (should) feel incredibly safe crushes me. I love education, love the discussion, love the challenge and love the professors that reshape your thinking, and ultimately who you are, with every class. All I can say is it makes me so very, very sad to see this special place defiled in such a cruel way. Good thoughts and prayers to everyone affected...

And now for something completely different...

This weekend Chelsi was in town, getting a better feel for Austin and helping me to indulge in some very unnecessary shoe shopping. :o) I think she has a better feel for what the town is like outside of the tourist areas, and I most definitely have new, completely unnecessary shoes. Polka dot ones even!! Yes I said polka dot. They are the cutest things I've bought in while, don't you agree?:

I've also been uber crafty lately making both the invitations (which were a HUGE pain in my arse) for Amanda's baby shower and the diaper cake, which is doing double duty as both a decoration AND my gift to Amanda and Baby Girl McL. I'd post pictures of that, but I don't want to spoil the surprise for those of you attending. Yes, you will be impressed. Try not to fall on your ass when you see just how Martha Stewart I've become.

This weekend was the end of my time off the diet wagon. I was bad, y'all. REAL bad. The scales are not my favorite thing right now, but my skinny jeans are still fitting, though not quite as loosely as before. I'm not worried, because I know I can do it again. I'm just a little miffed at myself for thinking that the Caloric Gods would turn the other cheek when I ate ball park food (hot dogs, nachos, soft pretzel, funnel cake, etc.) two days in a row, and then follow it up with a week's worth of not feeling like cooking. Whoops. My bad. So, onward and upward and all that shit.

This week promises to be a blur. I've GOT to go shopping for a new outfit for the shower (you feel my pain, I'm sure), and I've GOT to get a pedicure before then as well. I can hear you now: "BOO-HOO!!" But seriously, I do have quite a bit of errands to run in order to wrap up the shower preparations and cook a few dishes for the shower, as well as getting my eyeballs re-checked on Friday. Did I mention that the craptastic eye doc that I went to last year prescribed me horribly inadequate contacts, told me to wear them two weeks longer than they should have and in the process gave me allergic conjunctivitis? Guess not. Well they did. Hopefully the new doc (who seems WONDERFUL and has explained my eyes to me in more detail than I ever thought necessary, but now appreciate) will tell me that it's all cleared up on Friday morning and I can be fitted for proper contacts and glasses. Yay for Dr. Kitchens! I'll let ya know how it goes...
