The Sevens

I've decided to steal this from Sarah because I can.  It's sort of like the Friday Five, but it's seven instead of five and you get to explain the stuff.  Putting this on some sort of a weekly schedule is asking a little much right now considering we're only two weeks into CTT's resurrection.  But I'll try to bring it back 'round with something resembling regularity.

The Sevens -- My 7 Favorite Healthy Foods

I chose this to start with 1. because Sarah did it first and I'm a lame copier; and 2. because I thought (for those of you who actually care) you might be interested in some of the dietary habits I've changed since 1/1/07.

1.  Skippy Natural Peanut Butter.  This stuff is the shit.  Not only do you not have to stir it up every time you use it, but they also add in a dash of sugar to make it taste less like prechewed peanuts.

2.  Sun-Dried Tomatoes.  I have some weird freakish aversion to raw tomatoes (which really are sooo good for you) and I'm not going to take the time to roast tomatoes on a weekly basis to throw in my salads and on my sandwiches.  So you can imagine how tickled I was to rediscover the tomato's answer to rasins.  These are awesome just to eat by themselves too.

3.  Dryer's Slow Churned 1/2 tha Fat Ice Cream.  Cookies and Cream is my poison of choice, but with half the fat (whose absence you don't even notice) I can indulge damn near every day.  Which brings me to...

4.  Dark Chocolate.  I've acquired a serious love of this stuff over the past few years and what with all the flavanoids (or isoflavons?  I dunno..it's one of those -oids or -avons.  Who can keep up?) I'm doing some anti-aging work too!  YAHOO!!

5.  Kraft's 2% Milk Deluxe American Cheese.  My quality of life damn near doubled the moment I found this stuff.  It's the lighter version of my favorite yellow cheese.  And yes, I can categorize my favorite cheeses.  I'd gladly give up #3 AND 4 for a big bowl o' melted cheese.  What would you expect?  My cat is named Queso after all.

6.  Grape Nuts.  I have no explanation for this other than they don't get soggy and bloated in milk--or at least it takes the better part of an hour for them to do so.  And if there's one thing I CAN'T stand it's mushy cereal.  Oooh!  And they also make a nice addition to oatmeal cookies.  Ask me for the recipe.

7.  Food for Life's Ezekiel 4:9 Bread.  I found out about this through the Queen Bee of housewives--Ms. Oprah.  If you're used to whole grain bread this stuff is great.  There's no flour in it, so it's full of good carbs and protein.  Plus it really puts you on track to meet the recommended daily fiber consumption.  For those of you wondering it's about 25 grams/day.  If you're not getting something close to that and would like to try, I suggest easing into it.  If not, you'll fill up with enough "hot air" to make you float a few feet off the ground.
