Children of University and Men

I have school in two hours and I have yet to read 'Billiard at Half Past Nine' by Heinrich Böll as well as the five essays regarding Nazis, Germany, identity, etc etc. Which brings me to CL 135's horrendous work load. I have more than an inch of readings for one week. This is incredibly insane. That's just one class. Then I have:

1. folk literature with Alaras - this isn't too hard, actually. She allows us to go to conferences, speak our mind, speak her mind (which is great, and crazy, and just very interesting to see), and basically have a look-in at Rizalista culture.
2. (Eastern) feminist theory with Legasto - We stopped at Kaplan's deterritorializations and her special brand of alienation. Then I have yet to finish Butler and Zimmerman's glossaries.
3. Speaking of alienation, I also have queer theory for Panitikang Pilipino 19. We have a meeting on Monday (remind to self) after 4pm at the CAL Building for a skit and I don't have readings!!!
4. Oh, and did I mention I had thesis to finish for March so I can graduate?

This is insane. I'm dying and the semester isn't even half done yet.

In other news, I just watched Children of Men by Alfonso Cuaron, starring Clive Owen who is hot. Well, and so is Julianne Moore. The movie drove me a bit off-center and I'm having trouble wrapping my head around it. See, the movie works off the premise that women miscarried in the beginning, and grew infertile. Why the women? And why in the heck is the title like that?

There is a certain amount of emphasis on biology, especially on the womb. Lotsa wankery on race, too, because the pregnant lady is black and eventually gives birth in a refugee camp (for illegal immigrants). I don't know what kind of feminist-wankery I can wield for this film because I'm quite literally brain-dead by now. But what does stand out is the political commentary; it's a dystopian future which somehow brings to the fore our own misdeeds in the now. Which brings us to the point: humanity doesn't deserve to bring its children forth in world where violence reigns high.

So message to YOU: watch the movie, tell me what you think, and maybe we can have coffee over it some time. More on this after I finish schoolwork.

Cheers everyone! Wish me luck! Oh, and don't forget meet up on Saturday!
