I'm back from Pangasinan. I rode the awesome (scary) waves all day long and got a horrendous tan. I could actually still feel the sea, ain't that weird? But the three short days there gave me the perspective I needed to keep life on the straight lane (no pun intended).
It was nice to be able to hang out with Kat's family, to just chill with people who genuinely care (whether or not you get up at 6am in the morning or wash your underwear).
Those three days were so refreshing. There was fresh oysters galore (P100 for a HUGE PAIL) and fish. Delicious! I don't think I ate as much sea food as I did then. Kat's dad is an excellent cook. They tried straightening my hair one evening but it was too traumatic for me so they stopped at the first strand. I wrote some fic; but mostly, I was in the water or sleeping under the sun, or eating, or being buried by Kat's little brother. I probably swam for close to five hours a day (or more!), built sand castles, and dug holes. I was a kid again.
I've forgotten how beautiful nature could be and sitting by the beach, letting the water wash over me and hearing the surf, I realized that there's more to life than buildings, the buzz of cars, and the din of people talking. It's a place where you know that in the broader working of things, our lives don't matter if we don't sit down and think about our place in the universe, and enjoy what we have.
Then of course, since there were killer waves and I didn't have a wake-board at hand, I just used my body. Haha! Does anybody know where to buy wake-boards or skim-boards? I would love a nicely crafted one, custom-made.
