Script-reading, READING, etc etc

I don't feel very coherent today. In fact, I'm downright tired. But I think a short story is in order:

Our Lives in Europe (Marie, I love you!)
Marie, my favorite New Yorker (for now) (aka tristanskye) is leaving for Berlin; I'm still struggling with my thesis, and Sal's still working on post-production for Laban. So, to set aside all that stress, three of us talked about our "future" in Europe: Sal and I have promised Marie that we'd stay in a flat in London together and put up a hot pan de sal business for a living. I honestly think that the British will like pan de sal, don't you? Pair that up with heart-attack cream and home-made jam... *dies of blood clots*

Sounds feasible, really.

And we'll have Angelina Jolie and Lena Headey lolling around on our bean bags. And Kate Mulgrew, if we can help it. Marie will be growing marijuana while Sal bakes and I deliver pan de sal to Lena Headey's doorsteps. Hahaha!

Theater and Film: The Big Leap (Lissa I love you!)
Just yesterday, I did some script reading with a good friend, Lissa, who also happens to be a part of the Saigon German production. She played Mimi on Rent, too (YES, I have bragging rights!). Now she wants to sing on cruise ships. Anyway, she'll be leaving for Europe sometime this week for auditions and I gladly indulged her by reading some scripts with her while Sal 'directed' us with her camera phone (hahaha). Lissa has plans for television...or film; she thinks Russell Crow is the next best thing to chocolate. Good luck Lissa...I'm going to miss you terribly! :(

Film Documentaries
So I'm doing administration work for the film and just an hour ago, took the car and picked up some archive footage/pictures from Probe to send to the UK via Fed Ex. We'll be doing the Buddhism documentary over the next few months and I'll be doing all the work from the house while the crew flies to Nepal. [Pouts]. My fault, really. I should've graduated this year but nooo... [weeps] Well anyway, it'll be a Lumbini-centered project, done pilgrimage style.

Theater vs. Film (Just a thought, really)
For those of you who don't know: television is very different from theater. Theatrical training will get you very far: presence, professionalism, all that jazz, but the dynamics of a camera with an actor is very different. Look at it this way: in theater, your audience is the fourth wall. In television or film, the camera is the third person as you interact with other actors. So it's essential to relate to your audience in a very personal way. Film takes a different kind of confidence and, in Lissa's words, the actor must often do away with his/her EGO entirely. The best film actors are those who don't have one.

And in theater, you don't have a safety net. No takes, no editing. So putting yourself in the moment and giving it your all, those are partial to theater actors and it shines through in camera-work.

=-=-=-=

Alright, enough. This sounds like film class.

In other news, still struggling with thesis. I have a huge report for Journey to the West in Chinese lit class and a VERY BIG exam for Izzy Reyes on Thursday.

And oh! I just discovered what fun writing drabbles is!
