101 Things in 1001 Days - Edits

Feb 14, 2010 12:48

This is LONG overdue! I've decided to edit the list again to take out items that no longer interest me or now seem silly. I thought about taking the BIG trips out since it looks like there's a few that won't happen between now and October 21st, but I'm still keeping them in because taking them out don't really fit "my editing rules" of no longer interesting me or seem silly. It would be like cheating. Okay, so editing period could be cheating, but I don't think it is as long as they fall into "my editing rules."

I've been thinking about what I'm going to do once my 1001 Days are up. This list has been such an integral part of my life for the past 2 years that I almost feel like I will be lost if I don't have some long term goals like this set. I'm not sure I would have enough items to create a new list, but I still want to do something. I've got a few things in mind, but if anyone has any ideas to share, I'd love to hear them!

The Complete List

Some of these I've already completed, but I had them edited long ago. I just haven't posted them here. So onto the edits!

7. Post a video blog is now Post a video - I honestly hate the sound of my voice, and I always have....that's never going to change. Posting an actual video blog would force me to watch it again to make sure it looked okay, and I know deep down that I would never be okay with it. I avoided doing this seemingly simple one so long just for this reason, so I am now marking it as "no longer interested" and changing it to just posting a video of me, which I've already completed. I'll update that later.

12. Take a photography class is now Complete a 12-block quilt - I checked into photography classes, and they were harder to find than I imagined. When I finally did find some, they were inconvenient times or incredibly way too expensive. David has given me some tips, along with an awesome point and shoot camera, so I'm happy now. I changed it to completing a 12-block quilt because quilting is something that I have developed in interest in after originally creating this list BECAUSE of an original item on my list (#76 - Learn to sew) that I completed early on. I haven't yet completed the quilt, but it's In Progress.

16. Get enough Southwest credit for a free flight is now Fly 10 times - I changed this one because I would have had to have flown 8 times in a 24 month period. Every time I ALMOST MAKE it, one or two of my flights would fall off the list. Since I have no real reason to fly 8 times in 2 years, I decided to edit this one slightly and up the ante to flying a total of 10 times in the 2.74 years that this list will be in the end. That's 2 more flights but a little more flexibility. Plus, do you know how difficult it is to transfer your Southwest Rapid Rewards into a new name? It's almost not worth the trouble since I can't seem to meet the 8 in 2 to get the free flight.

21. Try Pain Ball is now Play Laser Tag - Everyone keeps telling me that Paint Ball is rough and that I probably wouldn't like it, so I'm changing this one to the less painful version of Laser Tag. There's still one in Nashville, and I had fun playing when I was in high school in college, so why not?

32. Play REAL Golf is now Play Golf (Real or Minature) - Since I don't know many people who play real golf, it's not easy for me to find someone to go play golf with, so I'm adding Minature as a possibility. I haven't played in years, so it will be fun.

39. Send one letter/card/postcard a month is now Send Birthday wishes, when possible (email/cards/Facebook) -  I hardly ever send real mail anymore. At the time it seemed possible, but it started to become almost a burden to figure out who to send cards to when there wasn't a birthday that month of someone I knew well and would send a card to. Now that I'm more "internetty", I'm more into virtual greetings. This one falls into being silly to me now, so I changed it to something to fit more of who I am now. I know it's hard to prove that I did this one with a quantitative number, but I'll know whether I did this one or not when the time comes. It's more about making an effort to let someone know that I am thinking about them, anyway.

47. Write a letter a month to a soldier is now Write 50 hand-written letters to soldiers - Since I fell behind in writing a letter every month, I upped the ante so that I could change it. I'll write write more letters, just not once a month. And since I don't hand write much anymore, this adds the extra challenge and won't include emails or online letters.

60. Clean out email inbox once a week is now Create an organization plan for bills, mail & documents saved - Since I moved to a smart phone since the beginning of my list, I check my email more on my phone than online now. I do MOSTLY keep it cleaned out....just not once a week. I decided that cleaning out the clutter that is paper would be a much better idea for me. I hatehatehate mail and paperwork, so I need a better way to organize them and store the ones that I need to keep so that I can access them when needed. This will always be a work in progress, but it's working, so far.

63. List all Flex Spending expenses once a month is now Have at least 75 Yelp reviews - My company pretty much automatically reimburses me now for any Flex Spending expenses, so I stopped tracking them once a month. The Explanation of Benefits that I get now falls more into #60, anyway. Changing it to 75 Yelp reviews isn't really an organizational thing, but the Yelp review goal is something that I want to achieve, and there's an empty space here now. Reviewing in Yelp has been fun. I might even change this to 100 before my 1001 Days are up.

64. Wash my car monthly is now Attend 7 Rollergirl Derby events (4/7)- With the crazy weather in this area, I'm basically changing this one because I just know it's not going to happen. I know that seeing the rollgergirls is a not something under Organization, but it's a new found interest since creating this list, and I needed something to fill here, and I can't think of anything else under Oganization that I want to replace it with. David and I saw the Nashville Rollergirls 4 times last year, so adding 3 more this year should happen....I hope! There's 6 home events scheduled right now, so I should be able to make it to at least 3 of them.

67. Convert VHS tapes to DVD and GET RID OF THEM is now Get rid of VHS tapes - In the past 2 years, my interest in OWNING every movie that I like has dwindled and changed to owning only the movies that I know I will watch over and over again. I have already given away several VHS tapes. I just need to find the rest that have been stored and get rid of them now, too.

68. Fill at least 3 hand-written journals is now Blog at least 100 times on LiveJournal or WordPress (Public/FriendsOnly/Private)  - When I first started this list, I was hand writing in personal journals almost daily, but now I rarely hand write anything now. I used to blog a heck of a lot more often, too. I changed this one to try to blog more. At this time, I'm not sure how many blog entries I've created on LiveJournal and WordPress, so I might increase this number to reflect a challenge for the remainder of the 1001 Days.

99. Ride in a hot air balloon is now Attend a hot air balloon event - This one seemed extremely tough to find that would work out to my goal because of the sheer cost involved. While I still think it would be super cool to go up in one sometime, it's just WAY FAR out of my budget to actually go up in one. I guess I should have researched this one again. I've been to one hot air balloon event, and I think it's more feasible to try that again.
