Explosion in NYC

Jul 18, 2007 21:35

So an underground pipe exploded today on 41st and Lexington ave today. The scene was insane! Imagine a pit in the earth with enormous clouds of steam pumping out of it, causing debris from buildings to fall all around. Looked like something straight out of a movie and sounds like hell. Luckily my friends were on the last trains home before the Lexington avenue subway lines were disrupted, and I didn't have any class today.Luckily, for such a busy area (MIDTOWN!!!), only one person died and 12 people injured so far. It was not an act of terrorism, although as a New Yorker the initial question looming in the head is whether or not we are being attacked. I know my muscles still tighten and tremble to this day whenever I hear an airplane flying overhead. Trains are really going to suck tomorrow and someone from Con Edison is really going to get his ass chewed off!
