I am facing a situation now where I cannot afford the co-pays for drugs and medical services under Medicare, yet I do not qualify for extra monetary help.

And the donut hole for prescription drugs has been hideous for me. October 2014 I fell into the donut hole. Then August 2015. Same meds. Even with stretching some of them, I fell into the hole earlier last year because prescription prices keep going up.

I get a discount for co-pays for procedures at the local hospital. I am waiting to find out if I need an operation. If so, that one will be at a hospital in a larger city by necessity. I hope that one will also give me a discount on hospitalization expenses and that surgeon will accept Medicare payment assignment. Some docs, specialists, and surgeons charge Medicare recipients beyond what Medicare will pay.

Yes, necessary medical treatment regularly bankrupts folks and this should not be.

i also do not qualify for extra help thru medicare. it is RIDICULOUS how expensive prescription drugs are here. the exact same meds cost half or 1/3 as much overseas, or even just up in canada

The donut hole sucks. I am willing to get on a bus once a month to go to Canada for cheaper meds but no such bus here. There was one in Boston some years back I heard. Not even sure if it is legal to go across the border for meds anymore.
