Le Vent du Nord, this Saturday

Mar 28, 2006 07:45

Well, I won't be going to this show, since I already have a ticket to see Stellastarr* that evening, but I've seen Le Vent du Nord (and Matapat), and I'd highly recommend them to anyone (in Philly) who might like Quebecois folk music. It's great, a lot like contra dance music and other stuff from the British Isles and Bretagne...and very dancey. (I've seen people dance at these shows even though they're not really set up for it...) Oh, and I should note that they do sing some songs; it's not just instrumentals for dancing.

Anyway, they're very good, so someone should go.

LE VENT DU NORD
Traditional dance music from Quebec

2006 "Best Traditional Band," North American Folk Music and Dance Alliance

2004 Juno Award (Canadian Grammy) for "Best Traditional/Roots Album"

Le Vent du Nord brings together musicians known for their role in renewing renewing the traditional music of Quebec while respecting its authenticity: eight musical instruments, four voices in harmony, two generations of musicians and a master of dance. And what's more, the whole is even better than the sum of its parts! Le Vent du Nord has dazzled Canada and the world since forming in 2002. Its first CD, Maudite moisson!, won the 2004 JUNO (Canadian equivalent of the Grammy) award for Roots and Traditional Album of the Year. Although the present group is rather new, all of its members have a most impressive background with groups like Matapat, La Boutine Souriante, and Montcorbier.
