Dinner Parties are Stressful. This is my excuse.

So I don't have a plethora of friends. Let's be honest, I'm one of those people who becomes consumed by love and spends every waking moment with her boyfriend leaving her friends wondering, "what ever happened to her?" Both in the virtual community and the real one. SO you can imagine my excitement when Nick and I clicked with the drummer from his band and his wife Katy.

They're a little older than us, in their mid twenties rather than early twenties, and they've been married since they were about the same age as us. Maybe a year younger even. High school sweet hearts too! Which makes them really adorable. Not only that, but they're spectacular company and fashionably nerdy. Which are both things that resonate with us.

They had us over to their house a couple months ago and turned us onto "Killer Bunnies" and "Carcasonne" two super awesome board games which we promptly ran out and bought. Katy also made one of the most amazing dinners I've ever had the pleasure of consuming: Pork chops with home made apple sauce, blueberry and goat cheese salad (which they revealed they served at their wedding, making it very special indeed), and asparagus roasted with peppers. It was really an amazing meal and of course my first reaction was: We must have them over to our house. Unfortunately, we are not married, in fact, we are both still living in our parents basements. Hmm.

So I have carefully arranged to have them over during a time when my parents would be away. Today. Nick is in charge of the steak, I'm making strawberry spinach salad, and corn on the cob. For dessert we're going to serve some strawberries and freshly picked Saskatoon's from our cabin with whipped cream and sugar. Of course it can't just be simple, I have to clean the house and pull out the fine china because I have this undeniable urge to demonstrate my domestic prowess. Have other people felt this way? Why can't I just play it cool! I have to prove I am as amazing a host as Katy even though I have very rarely hosted anything more complicated than :this is the restaurant and the time.

Anyway, I was becoming so nervous about this (especially because I had failed to touch base with them this weekend and they don't even know my address!) that I forgot to bring a lunch to work. I then forgot my time sheet, which is due today, in Nicks car, and then i very nearly forgot the office key I only just received yesterday, on my dresser. This key is important because it is magical and allows me to leave the office during the day for things like ... a bathroom break.

Wish me luck!
