Gosh... you are a dear one Mariole.

You know... it's odd. I posted my story on my LJ first, and left it there for close to 2 weeks. I did that because I was hoping to get a general idea of what people thought of it before I actually put it out to the wider audience at MEN. I also broke it down into five parts thinking it would make for easier reading, and I also put all five parts up at the same time. My reason for that was to show that even though it was in parts, it was a complete story and not a WIP -- I think there are many who tend to shy from a WIP.

To be truly honest though, I really didn't expect a lot to read it -- since I am basically a newcomber and unknown. Though I was hoping maybe a handful or so might. I guess I think people think like me. I will give any story a chance if it's about Frodo and Sam. *grin* Ok, well, so maybe - Merry and Pippin - lover's won't want to read. *hehe*

But that is how I came upon you, Mariole. Frodo and Sam brought me to you. Did you know that? : ) Somewhere, and I've no idea where, or even what story of yours that I read first but, I came upon a story by you, with Frodo and Sam of course, I LOVED IT! and now, I'm hooked on your stories. Simple as that. ; )

And, btw, Too Many Tooks was absolutely FANTASTIC!!! I think I've told you that before. I could easily read that story over and over, but since I can't catch my breath through most of it, and it makes my heart do funny things, for health reasons, I'll just read it on occasion. *blushes*

As far as getting my name out there, the only way for me to really do that is by reading others stories and commenting. I can't put out stories like a good many of you can. You, Mariole, seem to have an endless supply of images and storylines going through your head, which only benefits us as readers, thank you very much, but I'm not like that. Things don't flow like that for me because I'm really not a writer. I only wrote this story, not as competition with anyone, but as a contribution to the fandom that I love. I wanted to give back something to the fandom that gives me so much.

Bottom line... I did enjoy writing this story and I have a few more that I am working on. Not saying that I'll ever finish them *sigh*, but I am having fun writing them.

Thanks again for reading, Mariole, and for all your kind and thoughtful words. : )

Hey, we're having a discussion! ( <3s LJ! )

I am one of those shyer-away-from-WIPers that you mentioned above. Of course, many WIPs I will start, to see if I like them, and then hold off until they're complete, then polish off the whole thing in one or more consecutive reads. It works better for me that way. But I also like to have the whole story visualized before I post, and preferably drafted. That way I can plant all the cunning foreshadowing, etc. that I hope will make it fun to read. It also helps me receive comments in context. Sometimes it's fun to spark off of what other people suggest-- Fatty wouldn't be nearly the character he is if Rabidsamfan hadn't wanted a chapter from his viewpoint. But my personal writing method (and everyone's is different) is I write to the last scene, preferably the last line. It's out there all the time for me, like a carrot. I just have to get there! So it's helpful to receive comments in the context of a complete work, even if it's only mentally completed (as "Devoted" is).

Sigh. Dear Frodo and Sam. I'm glad they lured you in! :) You comments on TMT--thank you very much! It sounds like me and "Frodo Hill" -- something I enjoy, but I only dip in occasionally. :)

As for my "endless supply of images and storylines," it's seasonal! :-D Ironically, when I write a lot, I get even more ideas. I think it's because that part is opened up. It was devilish hard to get going on "Devoted" again after my injury, partly from pain, and partly because I'd fallen out of practice. I struggled with the Lithe party scene until I finally found the key that would make it work--which of course meant another rewrite. And I was happy to do that. I'm a big fan of rewriting and the erase key. My brain works rather slowly, but when it finally gets things sorted out, it generally comes up with a more elegant solution than my first questing attempts. But again, that's just my process. A side-effect from it is that I've become quite a fast typist, so it's not nearly so bad to go back and redo! (Oh, I'm happy my hand is working again!)

Thanks for the conversation. It's just two of my favorite topics: writing and Tolkien!

That is hilarious, given that you write them. : )

God, I wish I could do what you do and just put them aside until they're finished. There is one in particular that I started some time ago and, at the time, I didn't know it was a WIP. I don't think I even new what a WIP was. I was just new to this community and reading anything and everything. Well... now I'm hooked on this story. The chapters don't come out very often and the waiting is absolutely killing me. Ah, well, what can you do?

I'm almost afraid to ask, and no doubt I'll be showing my ignorance, but what is (<3s LJ!)???

But I also like to have the whole story visualized before I post, and preferably drafted.

Wow -- That's amazing! I think I had the very first line in my story and I had already visualized the intimate scenes in Chap 2 and Chap 3 *blushes*, but that was it. I built my story from there. Kind of working backwards, really, I guess you could say. Or from the inside out, more like.

Ah, Rabidsamfan. My thanks to her. I absolutely LOVE Fatty's character in "Devoted".

"Frodo Hill". OMG! That was unbelievably clever and immensely entertaining. Teasel is an absolute genius, is she not?

Here-Here! I have so many drafts and rewrites it's almost ridiculous. But, I agree, the end result is usually so much better.

There are some days for me where it all seems to flow. I have even gotten myself up out of bed, just as I'm about to fall asleep, because a scene popped in my head and I knew if I didn't write it down it would be lost forever! If only someone could invent some sort of gizmo that could record your thoughts while you are asleep and convert and save them into a Word document -- all ready for printing when you get up. *hehe*

And I too, Mariole, am glad that your hand is working again. That means more "Devoted" right? : D

Sorry about the delay! I have to oozle out my computer time sparingly.

Yes, more "Devoted" is coming! I blew off work to work up some new scenes. I'm poorer but happier by far. It still needs to be beta'd, though.

You mean you don't have one of these? *boggles * taps microchip implanted at the base of my brain*

what is (<3s LJ!)???

<3 is supposed to be an emoticon of a heart. So it's, "I love LJ". /geek

My stories vary in the degree of visualization. For example, I decided for the good of the story, I would leap ahead two months. When I sat down to write, totally new scenes came from thin air. But as long as I'm marching towards my goal, I'm happy. The middle gets to move around as it needs to. The story is out there; I'm just typing it in. :)
