My Latest Guilty Pleasure
Nummy Goodness...
It's been a colder than normal winter this year both in my city and beyond. On one such freezing weekend afternoon a week ago, my eyes landed on a box that lay half hidden in the back of my pantry.
It was a box of hot chocolate left over from last year. The red box stood in contrast to the cans and pasta boxes in front of it and my eyes had grown so accostomed to it as backdrop that I had to shake my head to really bring it into focus. I grabbed the box and stared at it for a full minute debating whether it was worth indulging in a mug but.... wait. Who am I kidding?! I stared for a total of FIVE seconds before ripping open one of those individual packet badboys and making myself a frothy, steaming cup (complete with mini-marshmellows!) I cupped the warm mug in both hands as I carefully navigated my way to the couch where I wrapped myself up in my down comforter and took my very first sip in over a year.
And that's when I knew I was gone.
Whoever came up with the idea of hot liquid chocolate that one can DRINK out of a mug (with a few marshmellows tossed in if you're lucky like me) was absolute genius. Someone get that man/woman a statue in the park, national holiday and/or amusment park! I am now officially hooked and have allayed my guilty conscience by allowing myself half a mug an evening which I find to be the perfect amount.
I'm also going to confess that not only is my hot chocolate time is one of the most eagerly awaited moments of my work day (I know, my weekdays are all excitement, huh?) , but I also break out in a self-choreographed jig with accompanying song (lyrics: "Nummy! Nummy!") as I wait for the microwave to ding! its' completion. A word of caution: Dance before you reach for the mug, not after. (chocolate burns the skin no less than any other liquid). Also? If you'd like to try your hand at my trademark song & jig number yourself, please be advised that it's best performed when wearing a pair of overstuffed monkey face slippers. (I know, hard to believe I'm single, huh?)

Heads up: Nestle brand hot chocolate only has 60 calories per mug serving and its all natural-- no icky artificial sweeteners!
