His walls are taupe. Taupe is designed to keep people calm in stressful situations. This isn't particularly stressful. Shedding the bar provided clothes, he opened his closet to find his shirt, pants, and everything he'd warn at the plant pressed and washed.
And that note. That terrible, horrible awful note. Bold print. White card. The note that had haunted him for three years.
It goes that way of it's predecessors.

"You're not safe."
The time is six months prior or thereabouts. He kept time vague while working for John. he did it on purpose. It wasn't because he didn't trust John to keep track of time, it was simply that he wanted to linger because-
Stockholm syndrome is a term used to describe a paradoxical psychological phenomenon wherein hostages express adulation and have positive feelings towards their captors that appear irrational in light of the danger or risk endured by the victims
"You're not safe."
Hostages may exhibit the condition in situations that feature captors who do not abuse the victim, a long duration before resolution, continued contact between the perpetrator and hostage, and a high level of emotion.
Amanda is swinging her legs from the top of the disposal vat like some kind of child. Her bare feet dangled, hair falling about her shoulders obscuring the finer features of her face. (She's not who she thinks she is) that could be applied to so many serial murderers.
"You so sure about that? It's not safe up there, that's for fucking sure. Does John know you're trying to kill yourself?"
"Does he know you're trying to kill yourself?"
Hostages who develop Stockholm syndrome often view the perpetrator as giving life by simply not taking it. In this sense, the captor becomes the person in control of the captive’s basic needs for survival and the victim’s life itself
Thinking about John made his chest ache. His stomach rolled and that one thought, that one slender hope of getting this done and escaping with his fortune and reputation intact pushed it's way to the front.
He was still a cop.
"You're not safe here!"
"You trying to warn me?" He approached, pulling down the hood on his jacket to stare at her, "Threats. Don't work. On me. How many times do we have to go over it?" (Why the hell do you always give women the higher ground?)
He ignored the flash of red.
The hostage endures isolation from other people and has only the captor’s perspective available. Perpetrators routinely keep information about the outside world’s response to their actions from captives to keep them totally dependent
Cherish life. He wanted to save. Oftentimes to justify this little hope, to keep the flame alive he compared John to a surgeon. A noble figure who understood that sometimes to save you had to kill, you had to murder, and the cancer that was eating at mankind needed a healthy dose of radiation.
Amanda, seemingly sensing his conundrum, laughed and slid a little farther forward along the vat. Her hair blew-an unseen breeze.
"How many fucking times do I have to say it? God, you're Such a neanderthal. You're a knuckle dragger. Can't get a sense of Shit motherfucker." (Rest assured, the information I have on you is well placed to be used.)
The hostage taker threatens to kill the victim and gives the perception of having the capability to do so. The captive judges it safer to align with the perpetrator, endure the hardship of captivity, and comply with the captor than to resist and face murder
He found himself wanting to share his little flame.
"You'll never be safe again. Not without him."
His flame snuffed itself out. The hostage taker threatens to kill the victim and gives the perception of having the capability to do so. The captive judges it safer to align with the perpetrator, endure the hardship of captivity, and comply with the captor than to resist and face murder.
Mark took a step, "I'm a hell of a lot more loyal to his vision then Then you." His was the voice of a disobedient child, arguing with a sister long dead. (He'd lost both his sisters. that made him sad.) "sitting up there, treating this like a game. you'll fail him, you'll fail him and then I'll be there to pick up the pieces."
(Get the hell out of my house and take your worthless fucking sister with you.) Boys wanted to obey their fathers and make them proud. His had been a dick. It was only right. It was fair he had this second chance! It was-
"You still don't fucking Get it."
The captive sees the perpetrator as showing some degree of kindness. Kindness serves as the cornerstone of Stockholm syndrome; the condition will not develop unless the captor exhibits it in some form toward the hostage.
she pushed herself forward and there was something in her face so terrible he took a step back-looking over his shoulder, drawing his gun and looking back, back, looking for john, for jill (Your parents?) They'd built a twisted little family together and mother and father-mother and father-
In cases where Stockholm syndrome has occurred, the captive is in a situation where the captor has stripped nearly all forms of independence and gained control of the victim’s life, as well as basic needs for survival. Some experts say that the hostage regresses to, perhaps, a state of infancy; the captive must cry for food, remain silent, and exist in an extreme state of dependence.
"You're not safe here without him, because they know."

He woke up in a cold sweat, eyes moist when he realized that she was talking about his new friends in the place that shouldn't exist and the people who's lives were completely and utterly insane. Mutants, Magic, and Monsters, all monsters staring at him with cold and unfeeling eyes before the girl with the shotgun shook her head, pointed it at him and pulled-
And he awoke.
"Oh god.."
They know. They know.
He wasn't safe without him. That thought curled inside his chest and twisted. He fell back asleep clutching his pillow. When he woke up, he ignored the tear stains.
