BBC Sherlock

Have any of you seen Sherlock?

The translation of the characters into modern times is fantastic, the casting is brilliant (though I might have cast Stephen Fry as Mycroft Holmes--assuming one could cast Stephen Fry), the acting is top-notch, the scripts are witty and fast paced.  All in all, it's an excellent show and well worth watching.  I'm certain that the U.S. Networks will steal the concept any minute and make a far inferior but more popular version.  You know, like they've done with everything else.  (The Office and Being Human come to mind immediately.)

I suppose it's a handy thing for the U.S. Networks that we've got roughly six times the amount of people living in the U.S. than live in England.  That's six times the number of people to watch their crappy shows.  And since Americans tend to put on blinders and pretend the rest of the world doesn't exist--including foreign films and shows--most don't even realize that half the shows they love are watered down copies of BBC shows.

Sad, isn't it?  I don't know what I did before I had BBC TV.  I suppose I had to rely on Comedy Central to run Ab Fab for me--and I do so miss Absolutely Fabulous!

This is in no way a commentary on ALL American Television shows.  There happen to be quite a few that I find entertaining.  I'm just a fan of original ideas and there are so very few of them.

Anyway, I highly recommend giving Sherlock a try.

Comments?  Queries?  Pontifications?

2/13/11-Update--I just saw today that Stephen Fry is going to play Mycroft Holmes in Sherlock Holmes 2 (the movie).  How funny is that?  I guess I have an eye for casting after all.
