Hmmm. It's a weary Tuesday night, as I contemplate the morrow, and whether or not I will take a return journey of 600-odd kilometres (8 hours of driving, according to Google maps) to the west of the state, to attend the funeral of a friend's mother. I probably won't go. Though I would really like to attend for my friend's sake. Emotions and guilt vs sense and logic. Or something. Will see what Wednesday brings, and how the scales fall.

In other news, George Gently begins on ABC1 here this Friday night. AND one Richard Armitage is a guest star in the first ep. And it is filmed in Northumberland, and set a couple of decades ago, AND it has Martin Shaw as George. Yes, I have the dvds. But yes, I will be watching!

I have been really lucky with musical events in recent days. After The White Album concert, mentioned in an earlier post, last Friday I went to a benefit fund-raiser called Song for Stuart, to raise money for cancer treatment in the name of a bass player who died a little while ago. Artists who played on the night had all worked with Stuart Speed, and included Vika and Linda Bull, Kate Cerberano, Renée Geyer and Paul Kelly. There were others who performed too; and it was 3 hours of music in a lovely Church/chapel in the city called St Michael's, which dates from the mid 1800's. The music ranged from bluegrass to classical piano, to gospel to blues and pop and sheer glorious genius. I know most of you reading this won't know of whom I speak. So if you have a little time and would like to have a listen,
here's Renée singing 'Difficult Woman', a song written for her by Paul Kelly. (She was reported yesterday as having cancer herself, though the prognosis seems very good, and she said she was feeling well.) She was on fire on Friday night, witty and powerful, in full fine voice.
And
here's Vika and Linda for good measure, just to get an inkling of their fabulous harmonies.
As Paul Kelly said on the night, 'My mother told me there'd be days like this; following on from Vika and Linda, and Kate Cerberano, and Renée Geyer. I'll just tell some stories." And he did just that, in his 'legend, not a star' way. I can't convey the feelings of that night here, but it was AWESOME! And
here's one last vid, this time of Paul Kelly and Vika Bull doing a song called 'Everything's Turning To White', a Paul Kelly song based on a Raymond Carver story.

And now, to bed, so I can be fresh for whatever tomorrow brings.
