So as I probably mentioned before, I had my university interview on tuesday.
I ended up going by train because I almost certainly would have got lost and been late for it if I had driven as I'm a regular patron to ridiculous occurances. As it happens I got away with only the minor incident of spilling coffee down my new laptop bag. I don't even know what I was trying to do when that happened.
So anyway the interview. I assumed the place I had to go to was going to be the reception or some kind of service desk but instead it was the actual art block so anybody there for an interview had to potter around trying to find somebody to ask. I think I was the oldest there but there was one fellow only a year younger than I so at least I wasn't the only one who applied independantly - comforting since these young up-and-comers looked awfully prepared.
We were given an overview of the course and a tour of the studios and then went into our individual interviews.
I was expecting to interviewer to look through my portfolio and ask questions thereof. In fact I was instructed to flick through it myself and explain its subtle facets and nuances.
So that took a bit of blagging, but I've acted alongside Ringford von Skilbeck, and with that guy you learn to wing things pretty hard.
The eventual verdict was that my intention to specialise in animation was more than evident and could easily bleed into other areas such as illustration and game design, though as a portfolio in general it needed more off the cuff life drawing. Which of course I never do, though I did some on the cuff photo copying for it so that at least showed that I'm capable of that stuff.
So then he asked me if I wanted to know if I'd got the part. I didn't know they were allowed to tell people then and there and I was told that they always tried to do so if it was good news. So GOOD NEWS, I got me an unconditional placement (I'm unsure as to what conditions might otherwise sully the deal) and that means come September I'll be off studying it up and pinching my pennies until my fingers break.
So I guess I'd better sort out a summer holiday while I've still got the money.
