ok, so i went to rockabillys today to see if they were going to have the new wolf parade, and of course, they never let me down, im cant wait to be their at 2 sharp to pick that up, but while i was there i picked up a couple of discs, a used around the fur cause i havent owned that cd in forever, and halo 14, wich i for some reason never bought, but i also picked up the new cky, and for all of you who were wondering aobut it heres my review
youll notice right off the bat the the new disc is choped full of the signature riff/scale rock that thier known for, it sounds very similar to inflatrate/destroy/rebuild. the first single another relm is a blusy type song with the infectus riffs and melodys you expect and come to love from cky, so lets go with another plus before i start tearing this appart, if you like cky, this cd is more to love from them, you can still crank it up and feel like a badass listening to it,
but now on to the faults, first off, its self-produced, WHICH I HATE, thier is no reason a band should self produce, its leads to simple mistakes that ruin songs, notice when korn went downhill? when the started self-producing. but the first thing youll notice on the disc is the songs tend to drag on, very long songs that dont need to be, and why are the soo long, one word, SOLOS!, bastards, needless pointless solos are found throughout this disc that just really tear down the songs, most solos are at least 4 progressions long, and just drag, and the whole time thier gonig on your saying to yourself "lets get back to the badass rock!"
the disc is another 10 song, (well its actaully 11 but one song is an accoustic instrumental) wich is really good, its like if you were just chillin with cky and they had a guitar and were rockin you out. the best part of the cd is the last song wich is a mellow tune, very reminesent to the last song on inflatrate/destroy/rebuild. but with out the meaningfull lyrics, not to say that theas arent meaningfull, but to say "get out of the water before you drown" dosnt have the same effect as "drop me a line and tell me how the hell you are"
also youll notice this disc is alot happier/brighter then the last 2, not the lyrcs, but the songs just seem to be more chearfully progressons, and takes away from the heavy rock that you crave.
but if you like cky, you might find this to be 10 meadocre tunes, but if you love inflatrate/destroy/rebuild, or the couple of bearable songs on volume 1, then its worth a burn, i dont know about a purchace, if they took out the solos it would be a gem, but with them in, its a less then spectular follow up to an amazing album
