This workshop was one of the most practical educational workshops I have attended. I actually learned some practical things about teaching students how to break down a word problem, and how to subtract in a different manner. It is suppose to help that 20% that can't conceptualize how to borrow or whatever the word of the day is now for that operation of subtraction. It was a good day, but 5:15 am came a little early, so now I sit here, "gapping" out at the computer screen because I have no energy to do anything else. I could feel myself fading on the ride home from the workshop. *yawn*
I went with a group of 11 people from our school district to this workshop. The rest of them wanted to stop at the shopping mall to shop. I had anticipated that and had brought the HP UK edition book that I am currently reading. I reassured my supervisor that they could shop to their hearts' content because I had a book to read. My supervisor was surprised that I was a HP fan. I told her it went along with my Star Trek obsession passion. She said she would have never thought I would have gone with either. To which I replied, "Are you kidding? Space, the final frontier." It was all about space exploration and science when I got hooked on Star Trek. (Had a big crush on Mr. Spock.) She told me I was too much of a realist; she would have never pegged me for liking fantasy.
That got me thinking. I like both of them because both tackle the age old struggle of doing the right thing in the face of adversity. And the fantasy/sci-fi thing doesn't hurt either.
