The end of summer

I am listening to #1 daughter practicing her flute in preparation for her annual audition for her college band. We take her back to school tomorrow, so it will be a while until I can hear her practice again. During the school year, I get nostalgic for her playing so I have to stick in the one song of her playing her solo from her senior year in high school just so I can hear her play again.

Tomorrow, hubbie, #1 daughter, and I move her down to school, get her unpacked, and then head off to see #1 son marching in a parade in a town half way between home and #1 daughter's school. That will be a busy day. It always seems as if we just were there picking her up from school, and here it is again, time to take her back. She has said that she had a good summer, which makes both hard and easy for her to start back at school; hard in that it is difficult for her to leave, and easy in that she has been rejuvenated and has energy to hit the books. It is just difficult not to have her around.

#1 daughter and I stayed up too late last night watching Voyager episodes. (Yes, I made sure I corrupted them from birth regarding Star Trek.) Boy, the differences between the episodes "Threshold" and "Death Wish" are like night and day. The first one is just stupid, and the second one has so many lessons, nuances, and layers that it hits so many emotions when you watch it. Why so different? The first one was written by Brannon Braga and the second one by Michael Piller. Man, I miss Michael Piller.

It was also a nice time to visit #1 daughter. I need to go write her a letter so that she has one in her mail box come Monday/Tuesday.
