Binge reading

I am a binge reader. I have read that way all my life. I have an eclectic taste, but I never mix my food nor my reading material. My German grandmother use to tell me that it was the Norwegian heritage in me that caused me to eat one food at a time on my plate. I wonder if that applies to books as well.

Let's see. When I was a kid, it was Hardy Boys. Nancy Drew just didn't cut it--too girlie. But, then came a really strange period of romance novels. Emily Loring--boy, I haven't thought of her in ages. Took me years of scouring any used book store I could find to get all of her 50 books. I blame those years on hormones and adolescence. About 18 years ago, I went through a "I've never read the classics before" mood, and spent lots of time reading Jane Eyre and the like. Then, of course, we can't forget the decade of reading Star Trek books. (I think I have over 200 packed away somewhere.) And then, there was the number of years reading Sue Grafton and Janet Evanovich novels--just love those humorous female "detective" novels. Then, it was on to nonfiction books such as Making of the Atomic Bomb and several quantum physics books. (Don't ask. I blame it on my love of science and Star Trek.) I think after that was political nonfiction. I wasn't finding answers in newspapers or on TV about issues that I knew were more extensive than what I was seeing in the media. My book shelves are full of those books. Guess I am still in that era since I keep buying them.

But, my latest crave is HP fan fiction and Voyager fan fiction. And the great thing about it all is that it is available at the touch of a few buttons.

Wonder what my next passion will be.
