Well, here it is, March 1st.  Spring starts in 19 days and it is still bitterly cold and there are snow piles over 6 feet deep in places.  I hate Winter.  Why do I live in Wisconsin, again ( Read more... )

Just so long as that side-turn into Sherlock Holmes is a minor rerouting and the roads come back together . . . we seem to be losing lots of M7 folk as of late and it's making me a little - scared . . .

But definitely, enjoy the other fandom - and remember that it's set in a similar enough time period that you might could arrange a crossover. Didn't Holmes want to visit the American West? He could come help Chris rescue Vin from the evil Moriarty . . . .

No worries. I frequently take side trips off the main road of M7. I overdose on something for a month or two then I come back. M7 seems to have been my constant for several years now.

The problem is, I am an extremely voracious reader and there is not enough Vin centric fic generated to keep me satiated. I wander about feasting on other tidbits here and there but always come back to the main meal. When I find a new fandom, I literally gorge myself on everything for the first week or so, until I figure out what exactly I like about that fandom. Then I start to pare down the stories into what I like, finally becoming very choosy about what I will or will not read. After that, it's about sifting and finding the pearls and discarding the rest. I was in the gorge phase of Sherlock Holmes for the last couple of weeks and now I find myself in the sift phase. Eventually, I will be down to reading a story here and there and back to hovering over the M7 stories, waiting for another Vin story to pop up so I can swoop down and devour it. And I'm picky about my Vin stories, too. They have to be well written. There are a few of authors that I just can't read because they are so poorly written, no matter if they are Vin ( ... )

yeah, I have that problem too - I went through BR when I first came into the fandom, reading all the Vin-centric stories and I do have a lot of favorites that I revisit when I have the chance. But I, too, get caught up in new 'bright, shinies' from time to time (most recently Leverage) - always have. I also still dabble in old favorites (UNCLE, Trek) so I do understand momentary distraction.

Not nearly enough new Vin-fic though, but then, would there ever be?

I like MUNCLE, too. I'll slip into it every once in a while and catch up on FFnet or the File 40 site. Illya is my fave.

Once I "adopt" a fandom, after winnowing through tons of stuff, I develop and sense of exactly what I am looking for in a story and then I'll only nosh on the most delectable pieces. I'd write more if I had a true passion for writing, but I don't. I'm a dilettante. I'll write if I'm bored and with nothing else to do but I do not feel compelled to put things down on paper. Sad, really, because I know I do a decent enough job at it that people don't run screaming but there you are.

And no, there is never enough Vin-centric fic. I do believe he is my main obsession in fandom. And I would kill for more Weaving stories as I do believe they are my favorite M7 stories ever.

You do an excellent job writing - but I do understand about it being a passion. I tend to love the 'charge' that comes when everything is coming together and the 'endorphin rush' sets in. I look for that when I write and it's always sad when I can't 'reach' that 'high'.

Really? Weaving is your fave? Huh. Thank you, by the by, I am seriously flattered, but there are *so many* really good OW stories out there - Gwen Rhys, True Enough, SaraMerry . . . I need to go back and reread, now that I think about it . . .

Oh, don't get me wrong, I *adore* Gwen and True Enough (outSTANDING writing) and Magra etc., etc. but the way your Weaving series keeps Vin on the razors edge, how Chris keeps him twisting in the wind (kind to him one moment, cold the next) stirs this little tingle in my belly that I love. It makes me want the next installment to see what new sweet/sour moments Chris will bestow on Vin.
Such lovely, lovely angst. I can't wait for the Obsession episode and how you will treat that. And, in the end, I want to see Chris's realization that what he wanted was before him all along and to accept that (hopefully just as he is about to lose it in some way.)
When writing makes my stomach flutter, it's is a winner
