It is my opinion that a significant portion of violent crimes could be averted with a greater priority being placed on treating people with mental illnesses. Out of the thousands of mentally ill people in our nation, many of whom are homeless, a much smaller percentage actually commit violent crimes.

That's a lot of people. That's not even covering the less serious categories of mental illnesses.

The Republicans are trying to cut Medicare coverage for mentally ill people in order to save money. My "PEP" team of psychiatrist/psychologists and social workers took all my co-patients to the protest demonstration (I had work).

Having been through the mill myself, I can say in all sincerity that Medicare part D keeps me a functional member of society. I am lucky that my family would do and have done their best to help me pay for prescriptions out of pocket, but that would total at least $12,000 annually.
