Conservative Teabagging

Apr 15, 2009 10:22

Where the hell have I been living that I've totally missed the boat on this? Apparently conservative activists are going to be having a bunch of tax day demonstrations dumping tea into harbors and sending teabags to Congress and the White House for some kind of anti-tax statement that is still to me wholly unclear.

Of course, they've unwittingly used the phrase "teabag" and "teabagging" to describe what they're doing...

Here's Rachel Maddow on the conservative teabaggers.

Now, having been living for 7 years in a zone where there is in fact ACTUAL taxation without representation I'm kind of pissed that this metaphor is being used for something other than it's original purpose. Nobody controls a metaphor of course, but how fucking stupid do you have to be to use the language of taxation without representation when you are in fact actually represented. Also, how fucking stupid do you have to be to have not had anyone in your research team to tell you that this is in fact a sex act of sorts and that the entire country will laugh at you. Oh wait, they fired all the gays. No wonder they didn't know...

If this had been a major DC Statehood protest, to raise awareness of taxation without representation in Washington, I would have been right there with them. Since it's not I'm going to go drink iced tea, hot tea and get teabagged tonight just out of spite.
