As I ride the bus up the street toward my house in the evenings I go past this building that's been chalked all over it. The largest most obvious one reads:
Matt
Numb 6:24
Ephe
Another one on the other side of the street was:
Job 6:24
I knew these were bible verses, but I didn't know which ones they were or what the chalker was trying to express. I just looked them up.
Matthew 6:24
No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.
Numbers 6:24
The Lord bless you and keep you;
Ephesians 6:24
Grace be with all who have an undying love for our Lord Jesus Christ.
The accompanying illustration is all about people going gaga over shopping on Rodeo drive and buying stuff. The obvious message is to get your head out of the mall and into the church. It might also be a political statement.
And the other one.
Job 6:24
Teach me, and I will be silent; make me understand how I have gone wrong
Is this contrition? Confusion? I mean, Job is all about the confusion and the doubting and the whining and bitchery cause God decided to fuck with him or something. What is the chalker trying to say? And why is he only picking verse 6:24?
