So, wow.
I really do a crappy job of keeping up with this journal. Such is life, I guess.
As for what's been going on... let's see...
I went to a party that my friends threw on Saturday night. It was super-hella-awesome. I got a bobblehead cat, from Trigun. It's so awesome! I stood there and bobbled its head for 10 minutes earlier today. I am very excited. I also got a Calvin and Hobbes book, and some MadLibs, which make me scream with joy and excitement! I miss Calvin and Hobbes! But now I have a book of them, and the ones I've read so far, it seems like the collection they picked for this book is one of the best! I'm excited! *dance*
I've been drawing up some characters on request from my GM in my "Silver-Age Sentinels" game I'm playing. It's fantastic. I have ~always~ had a soft spot in my heart for super-hero roleplaying games, and this one is fantastic. He made us make very weak characters, and we're playing a bunch of teenagers who just stumbled onto their mutant powers, and have been taken in by Xavier and his X-Men. I'm such a geek, but it's a lot of fun. And the drawing for it has been wonderful, because he's asking me to draw up NPCs, and I feel like it's helping me to build my skills at making people look different. It's also giving me ideas for some of the characters in my comic, that I have also been notoriously bad at working on.
Speaking of the comic, this same friend (the GM) has been advising me a bit on my worries about the association that people will try and make with the main character of my comic, and Vash the Stampede of Trigun fame. Admittedly, they are startlingly similar, but only because I had never seen Trigun until after I came up with my character. Anyway. His advice was that, the main association that people will make with my character and Vash is that they both have guns, and they wear trenchcoats, and they have wild hair. The color trenchcoat and type of gun don't matter too much. They're easily interchangable. And the hair in all anime is wild, and does things with physics that makes baby Jesus want to cry. So he advised me to drop the guns, at least for the main character, and maybe give him swords or something. And then move the guns to a secondary character. I think it's sound advice, as I was kinda wondering where to go with a character who uses guns, and isn't particularly against killing people. Bang. They're dead, end of story. That's not very exciting.
Well, anyway. It's just something I'm thinking about. But I can't decide if I want to go European style with the sword, or Japanese. Japanese makes more sense, because let's face it, a katana was ~made~ to kill people. European swords were really made more to 'bash the living hell out of your opponent, while you wear armor that you couldn't possibly hope to be graceful in', and pray that they died from it. But that's also what strikes me as kinda cool about the european style sword. They were really heavy, and most were rather hard to wield, at least, the ones I would use. But the main character is (by design) stronger than 6 strong humans, and so could use it pretty gracefully. I'm thinking I may go with a ninja's sword, and make him more of a shadowy-stealth-whore. I can't decide!
I need advice!
Which would you rather see, if you were to pretend to be interested in comics, and were reading mine?
