Random 2 a.m. musings about Dragon Age: Origins, which I've been playing through again instead of editing my big bang. Steam tells me I just hit 300 hours logged in this game. Oh my god.
I reckon he was made a Grey Warden to eliminate any chance of his challenging Cailen for the throne, myself*. Back alley politics!
(Hi. I was browsing friendsfriends and as I've just entered the Deep Roads again because I am re-playing myself after three years I thought I'd say hi, because yay, Dragon Age.)
*Of course, if they'd just ASKED him if he'd planned on challenging for the throne - not sure if he's older than Cailen? - they could have watched him run off to Orlais or the Free Marches in terror.
I always thought that was why he was being trained as a Templar -- all those vows plus lyrium addiction make a perfect setup for "Nope, no King material here". But then the Revered Mother seemed to be really happy she had a sort-of heir at her command, so maybe that was why he was shuffled into a different order instead.
(Pretty sure he's quite a few years younger than Cailan.)
I was just surprised that no one ever mentioned the Taint in the context of whether he would be a good longterm King prospect. Mind you, I suppose their interest was pretty short-term at that time...
