I can't believe I didn't think of this before. That funny-looking helmet cover is called a Mitznefet. It obscures the silhouette of the helmet, making it harder to detect. When I used to do field training exercises, I could always pick out the ambushes by the helmet shapes in the brush. That cover makes for better camouflage. I'm surprised that US Army and Marine Corps don't use it. What I don't understand now is why the IDF doesn't use digitized uniforms yet.
