Pyramid Schemes

I am finally certified in open-water scuba diving through PADI.  Because of my schedule and the diving shop's hours, I can only go during the weekends.  That's why moving beyond the beginner's course will be difficult.  The diving shop has two additional courses I am immediately interested in: the advanced course and the rescue diver course.  But I'm beginning to think that this is something of a pyramid scheme (see here, here and  here).  There's always another course you can blow your money on.

Skydiving certification (here and here) gives me a similar vibe.  But, I guess you pay into it insofar as you have the money and have the fun.

Also, I couldn't tell for sure, but I think I got hit on again.  This girl with whom I took the class portion asked me questions which, on their own, wouldn't amount to anything.  But, when the questioning sequence leads to "I don't have anything to do this weekend, here's my number," it makes me wonder.  The thing is, she's not attractive to me.  Maybe I should go out just for its own sake - not every date has to lead to making out or more, does it?
