So Jake and I had this really interesting conversation about piercing, and why it interested me... Here's a part: ( Me = PINK , Jake = BLUE )
Chickenreliable1: What attracts you to piercing?
Deadeye Mary07: I can't draw, so tattoos are out of the question
Deadeye Mary07: Have you even wanted to walk throught walls?
Deadeye Mary07: It's the same sort of thing
Deadeye Mary07: Everyone knows that piercings hurt to a certain degree, but did you ever think about whether or not walking through a wall hurts the wall?
Deadeye Mary07: It's the same concept as separating mollecules
Deadeye Mary07: I'd like to do tattoos...
Deadeye Mary07: but unless I get divine insparation or something, I'm afraid that's a no-go
Chickenreliable1: hmmm
Chickenreliable1: You make a point
Deadeye Mary07: I dunno...I just think it's really interesting
Chickenreliable1: I agree. What attracts me to it is how people can have it in their prerogative to get something like that. I see that as a strength rather than an excuse to not understand.
Deadeye Mary07: yeah
And then I talked about some of the reactions I've gotten to my comments about wanting to do this for a living, and we had an interesting tete-a-tete...
Deadeye Mary07: You know, it's funny...
Deadeye Mary07: we were talking about future job choices at lunch the other day, and I mentioned piercings, and one of my friends gave me this *look*
Deadeye Mary07: and she's all "Why would you want to do something like that?"
Deadeye Mary07: and then I reply, "I dunno...I just think it's cool"
Deadeye Mary07: and then she says, "You don't ever want to get a normal job, do you?"
Deadeye Mary07: and that just pissed me off
Chickenreliable1: Normal job? like a rat in a cage???
Deadeye Mary07: I know, right?
Deadeye Mary07: and so I asked her why she wanted to be a history teacher
Chickenreliable1: what she say
Deadeye Mary07: and she replies, "Well, it's interesting. I like it."
Deadeye Mary07: and I go, "Exactly."
Deadeye Mary07: and she still gives me this look
Deadeye Mary07: and I was just really pissed off
Deadeye Mary07: you know?
Chickenreliable1: Yeah...shit..The only place for history to go is backwards...piercing is still moving forward
Deadeye Mary07: I mean, she judges me for something that I haven't even done yet, just because she's scared of a little pain. How dare you?
Deadeye Mary07: wtf?
Deadeye Mary07: I was PISSED OFF.
Chickenreliable1: Getting a piercing is like practicing Yoga...it hurts like hell but if your mind is strong enough then it's the most beautiful feeling in the world
Deadeye Mary07: exactly
Another conversation:
Chickenreliable1:

http://www.bmezine.com/news/steppingback/20050110b.htmlChickenreliable1: yeah
Deadeye Mary07: it's gotta be hard
Chickenreliable1: yes
Deadeye Mary07: being a mother with mods, and having people constantly assume that you're a bad parent
Chickenreliable1: Thats just not right at all.
Deadeye Mary07: I know
Chickenreliable1: And not receiving the same treatment, legally, medically, etc...that's a lowgrade hate crime
Deadeye Mary07: totally
Deadeye Mary07: I like that essay you sent me. While I disagree with their religious beliefs, it's well written, coherent, and the ideas are sound
Chickenreliable1: yeah
Chickenreliable1: it just shows that modification is so much more than based on impulse and rebellion...
Deadeye Mary07: I hate the thing where people assume that wanting mods is only because I'm trying to rebel against my parents
Deadeye Mary07: I love the shirt "I never wanted to be different, I just wanted to be me"
Deadeye Mary07: because it's true
Chickenreliable1: Is it so hard to believe that modifying is out of respect? Respect for your body? mind? Being loyal to yourself? no...i dont think so
Deadeye Mary07: I don't think so either, but apparently, we're wrong
Chickenreliable1: I like the idea behind the shirt, but it goes against my dislike of catchy slogans
Deadeye Mary07: yeah
Chickenreliable1: No. We are not wrong. We want the same thing as anyone else, some kind of peace and balance, but how we get it is what makes the difference...stupid sheep.
Deadeye Mary07: it's like, my mods (not that I have any yet, but I'm thinking about getting a few) make up as much a part of me as the color of my eyes or the shape of my hands
Chickenreliable1: absolutely
Deadeye Mary07: you know, why do some people chose to wear only Nike Airs? Or why do people play lacrosse instead of field hockey?
Chickenreliable1: gah...two of my most disliked things...Nike and filed hockey
Deadeye Mary07: lol
Deadeye Mary07: me too
Deadeye Mary07: You can get a lot of injuries from sports that will affect you and your daily life just as much, if not more, than tats or piercings
Chickenreliable1: definitely
Chickenreliable1: tattoos, especially nowadays (granted the client follows instructions and minds their own competence), involve little to no health risk...piercings are different, but there are so many measures and precaustions that are taken to minimize that risk
Deadeye Mary 07: word
So, at least I know that Jake and I are on the same page... lol.
I <3 you cupcake! :D
