Even though this was a 4 day weekend for me, it disappeared pretty quickly (so did our money , ca-ching!).
We ate; we spent money; we rushed from place to place:
Friday we had lunch at a friends house (pulled pork, pierogies and lots of other goodies. Afterwards we headed off to the leather sale at the Victoria Inn & found my sweetie a nice dressy leather jacket with a removable lining that actually fits his big manly shoulders without being too big everywhere else. I was very good and didn't buy the cream colored leather jacket with the scalloped edging and embroidered details.
Saturday I did some baking in the morning (peanut butter cupcakes with chocolate frosting, chocolate cupcakes with butterscotch frosting, and Aztec Gold brownies - with espresso powder, Mexican vanilla & chili powder). I had an appointment to get my hair cut in the afternoon followed by even more food a barbeque at another friend's house in the evening. I ate way too much again! There was BBQ pork, fresh foccacia, a lovely cashew curry coleslaw, to name just a few items. Sometime during the evening I noticed my vision was going a bit wonky. After closer inspection, I realized it was because my glasses had started to break where the bridge joins the lenses. Unfortunately, with Sunday being a holiday, there wasn't much I could do about it, except suffer through the eyestrain due to the twisting of the lenses.
Sunday we had lunch at my parent's house (turkey, potatoes & salad, banana cream pie & fruit). We had to bail a bit early to make our way to my sweetie's parent's place for supper (ham, roast pork, roasted rot veggies plus mashed potatoes & gravy, etc...). After I got home I had to take my glasses off for a while to ease the eyestrain. I ended up not getting much accomplished.
Today I was able to take advantage of a cancellation & get in to see an optometrist right at 10:30. I McGyvered together a temporary patch (a paper clip bent to mimic the shape of the rim & scotch taped into position) to make sure they didn't break on me completely while I was driving. It helped a bit with the eyestrain too, since It reduced the angle the lenses were twisting.
I was very impressed with the Lenscrafters I went to. Their customer service was excellent and their follow -up services are very good. They had my prescription in stock in the compressed glass (I'm still giggling over the sheer novelty of it) so I was able to get them the same day. It was one hour for my glasses (I'm very happy with the style), but I ended up getting prescription sunglasses as well (something I should have gotten a long time ago) and those took a bit longer due to the difficulties of trying to work my very strong prescription into the frames. They had a couple of promotions going on, so it wasn't as expensive as I had feared, but it's still a fair chunk of change.
While I was waiting I was able to get some shopping done in the mall. I picked up a couple of $2 books at the Coles, new runners for work at Payless, and a bunch of DVDs at HMV:
Stargate: The Ark of Truth
Ed Byrne: Pedantic & Whimsical (stand up comedy)
The Full Monty (believe it or not I've never watched it before, and it was only $6)
The Professional (one of my favorite movies, we Had it on VHS)
As I was getting ready to leave I noticed the weather had turned really nasty - lots of blowing snow (luckily it had started to let up by the time I left the mall), so I decided to just come straight home rather than do the shopping I had originally planned for the day. Whoosh, another day gone! :-)
