My Kimono

Now, I haven't made the following yet, but intend to over the coming week: Geta, Tabi, and undershirt.  However, in less than a week, I have made the kimono pictured below, yes, that's me wearing it.  I painted that butterfly and moon motif myself - I copied it from xxxHolic, kinda, but I don't think they're gonna come after me.  (As an aside, I absolutely love  xxxHolic manga and anime, and I've got all the anime, but only the first and third volumes of the manga, which is frustrating every time I think about it!)  I also tied that obi myself, and considering I have well over four metres of fabric for the green obi and exactly zero experience in tying these things, I think that's not too shabby.

A few other details - the blue thing is both boned and padded - things which never happen normally in a proper kimono, I know, but if you will take note of the fact that I am of Anglo-Saxon descent, possibly even with a little Scandanavian or Norman thrown in, and that I am really quite healthy for a person who spends most of her days sitting around, that makes for a very curvy person.  The boning helps me and the padding helps the outfit.  And yes, I know that last picture is blurry, I can't really help that.

I can hardly wait to wear this out.  I will though, because I want the geta and the tabi and the proper undershirt as well.  Not to mention figure out if I'll wear a wig with it or not.  Less properly, I'll probably wear a pair of trousers underneath my kimono as well when I wear it out.  I'm just not comfortable without wearing a pair I guess.  Even when I wear skirts I generally wear shorts underneath them at least.  Oh, and I have a matching draw-string purse/baggie/pocket-thing which I also made, but isn't in these pictures because I'd finished it yesterday, so it was already in my room whereas I put this on immediately I finished it then went down to show mum and dad.  The camera was just handy, so I didn't have time to fetch the baggie.
