this is the team i'd field if i were guus hiddink...
Kalac
Neill Milicivic Thwaite
Emerton Bresciano Grella Culina Chipperfield
Viduka Thompson
Kalac - big commanding presence in goal.Always reliable for the Socceroos and heaps of big game experience in the Serie A.
Neill - solid and tough...a little wayward with his tackling but good on the ball and always moving forward.
Milicivic - untested at this level but has been playing Champions League football this season.Another solid defender, nothing special but gets the job done like it needs to.
Thwaite - surprise packet from the Jamaica game.Tall, strong and physical, not technically brilliant but again, gets the job done well.
Emerton - one of our best on the right wing and finally coming in good form again after being on the bench at Blackburn for ages and being so-so with the Socceroos. Hopefully he can pull out a few choices cuts on the day.
Bresciano - one of Australia's best midfielders but been a little quiet of late.Scored a bomber against Jamaica.Forward thinking middle man.
Grella - mister man-marker for Recoba. The defensive midfielder we always seem to be lacking. Not a big presence on the national team yet but this may potentially make or break his Socceroos career.
Culina - great form, great allround play.Brought up under the Ajax youth system which makes him Australia's most adaptable player for Hiddink's various game plans.Very comfortable in midfield but has the knack of scoring and one-touch through balls.A replacement for Okon (even better than Okon perhaps ?)
Chipperfield - another one of Australia's reliable players.Been covering the left wing in place of Lazaridis but has probably taken over from him for good now. Very mobile and has that attacking frame of mind, something that comes back from his days at Wollongong.
Viduka - one of Australia's best forwards ever.Great on the ball, can hold it up forever with a potent touch in front of goal.Looks in good nick after a year off with injury.Great captain too !
Thompson - dynamo in front of goal. Now back in Melbourne, may slip under the radar of the Uruguayans and cause a few headaches for their backs if we get the chance. Our surprise packet for both legs.
GO SOCCEROOS GO - GERMANY 2006 ! ! !
