Pretty much the best conversation I've had in my whole life

Aug 21, 2007 15:00

Orpheus is an MIT grad, I'm Lyric, the other people don't say much.

What started it yesterday:

(Aug. 20, 2007) Lyric - For some reason, I always get it confused with "Lawn." But anyway, the smiley isn't exactly a word.

(Aug. 20, 2007) szhismine - is anybody around?
(Aug. 20, 2007) Orpheus - Yes, but I'm hiding
(Aug. 20, 2007) Orpheus - Because if Lyric confuses lawns with yawns, I'm hiding until it's too cold to spread organic fertilizer

Today:

(06:20 PM) Orpheus - Surgeon General Warning: Unlike Trix, Buttered Orpheus Nibbles are not for kids. Do not use Buttered Orpheus Nibbles while operating heavy machinery. Do not use Orpheus Nibbles if you have a family history of Orpheus Nibbles, as this may cause a nasty intergenerational catfight. If arousal lasts more than four hours, seek relief. Discontinue immediately if a headache or irritation results. Some dependency may result from repeated use. Do not get in eyes. No warranty is made of merchantability or fitness for any purpose. Orpheus Nibbles are a high quality 100% organic product with no insecticides, preservatives or animal testing; as such, thorough rinsing is recommended. Keine heisse Asche einfullen. Доверя́й, но проверя́й. See insert for other warnings.

(06:24 PM) Raeven - Buttered Orpheus Nibbles - they sound fattening, I think I'll pass
(06:25 PM) Orpheus - *works on Olestra™ version*
(06:26 PM) Lyric - Yeah...on second thought, it's making me a little nauseous...
(06:30 PM) Orpheus - *Notes Olestra™ is not approved in the UK/Canada. Discontinues work*
(06:36 PM) Raeven - LOL - sorry Orph, but I am sure a man of your capabilities can find a way to make the nibbles more appealing to women of a certain age who love the idea of a full fat version, but who cannot eat them for expanding waistline reasons

(06:38 PM) Orpheus - But Lyric, the side effects include "increased urge to participate in integration bees" and the whole clomipramine yawn/sneeze thing. Of course for you, that might become a lawn sneeze thing, which would make the drive to work extremely difficult -- but worth it
(06:41 PM) Orpheus - http://rad.usuhs.edu/medpix/radpix.html?mo...tr=&search=
(06:45 PM) Lyric - You are enjoying my lawn/yawn problem way too much.
(06:45 PM) Orpheus - I know
(06:46 PM) Lyric - And I don't do integration bees, I participate in pi recitations

(06:46 PM) Orpheus - oooh -- UBER geek!
(06:47 PM) Raeven - *shakes head and backs away*
(06:48 PM) Lyric - No, integration bees are definitely worse
(06:48 PM) Orpheus - why? I mean unless you do them in rhyme
(06:50 PM) Lyric - Because memorizing pi is something you do when you're bored, where integration bees involve admitting that you like calculus
(06:53 PM) Orpheus - and rhyming them?
(06:56 PM) Lyric - Rhyming? What's with all the rhyming?
(06:58 PM) Orpheus - There's a long history of rhyming and calculus... though I suppose it was mostly an 18th century fad
(06:59 PM) Orpheus - At my age, all the numbered centuries blur together. When I was young, they gave the periods and eras proper names
(07:00 PM) Lyric - e to the x, dy/dx, e to the x dx
cosine, secant, tangent, sine,
3.14159...

(07:00 PM) Orpheus - You didn't tell me you were a cheerleader!
(07:01 PM) Lyric - Save me, save the world, man

(07:01 PM) Orpheus - LOL
