Awakening

The rhythmic beeping of heart moniters slowly came into focus of Bobby's fragile shells as the drowned feeling of his mind started to clear off. A soft groan emitted from his throat as his body attempted to adapt to being awake for the first time in over a week. Two eyelids flashed open, revealing a pair of brown eyes that were more alert than ( Read more... )

Bobby's arms shot straight out, the embrace was slightly ackward for him and he didn't quite now how to react. He hadn't expected it for one, but mostly the only other woman in his life that bothered to give him anything like a hug was his mother. Somehow it felt...warming, a feeling Bobby had long since forgotten. He found himself pulling Rogue into his own embrace, even if it was done rather shaky as though he'd just taken his first steps in walking. For one thing, he had no idea how to sooth a girl's crying, but he hoped if he could mimic all he'd seen Scott do whenever Jean was upset, he might have something of a chance.

He slid his arms down around her waist--luckily enough she couldn't see his face as he was biting his lip in a nervous wreck and expecting the worst from that little trick. Feeling that no hands had collided with his jawbone he slowly pulled Rogue out from the embrace, making sure he wisened up before actually confronting her. Once he was sure he had a grip on his boyish thrills he hooked Rogue's chin and gently lifted her quivering head. "C'mon, Rogue..." Bobby's face eased into a hopeful smile, and despite his voice meant to comfort Rogue it seemed to give himself a solace also. "You really don't think I'd leave so soon, do you?" He cuffed a hand over his heart feigning slight hurt, "I thought you might've had more faith in me than that!" His frosty blue eyes softened as he finally caught glimpse of Rogue's tear stained face, perhaps it wasn't a good time to be joking about. "No more tears, huh?" With a lifted hand he wiped a freely falling droplet from the delicate contour of her face. "I can't stand to see people cry."

Rogue managed a weak smile as she allowed one of her hands to lay against Bobby's chest. "I'm sorry," she whispered bashfully. "I just missed you so much, and now... now your awake and alive... and well! It just makes me so happy. I've never felt this happy-" Rogue quickly silenced herself. Was she saying too much too soon? Or maybe she wanted him to know now just how much she loved him incase she wouldn't get the chance again. Blushing yet again she leaned in and lightly kissed Bobby on the cheek so as not to absorb any of his energy. Then allowing him to react and register the gesture she turned and began to slowly walk back to her room.

Bobby's mind took a few minutes to register that he'd been kissed. He stood numbly as though bolted to the ground, then slowly reached a hand up to his cheek. His mind gave him that wake-up kick, and he snapped out of the daze only to realize that Rogue was almost out the door. "Rogue! Wait!" Without thought nor reason Bobby found himself in a half run after her. He skidded to a stop at the realization that he had nothing to say; there wasn't any point in chasing after her. His outstretched arm dropped to its side while he lasped into a silent paralyzation. Finally he broke the noiseless barrier with a soft whisper, "Last time you ran off, I almost didn't see you again." He hunched his shoulders and stuffed his hands in his pockets, eyes seemingly looking for comfort in the grooves of the floor

Rogue heard the soft, muffled voice of Bobby as she neared her own room, but she couldn't turn back. It would seem to obvious that she wanted him and was listening and hanging onto his every word. Still very much confussed as to whether or not she wanted him to know right now or keep him guessing she walked on. Maybe if he followed her she'd know he liked her.

Bobby's eyes trailed along with Rogue's slowly vanishing figure, one eye squinted in slight confusion. "...Rogue?" By the time she'd disappeared from his sight, he began to wonder whether that small bit about running away may have taken a deeper blow emotionally. He didn't intend to upset her, and somehow it worried him more intensely with each passing moment. Maybe she purposely gave him the cold shoulder, maybe she just didn't hear him? He stared dumbly at his bare feet for the moment, contemplating his choices.

Slowly he spun around and began heading for his own room again, but stopped in midstep. If only thing could describe Bobby Drake it would be annoyingly persistent, as he made a point to remind himself. With a slightly exaggerate face of determination, he spun his raised foot around and started walking after Rogue again. Then it occurred to him that running might prove more dramatic, and he found himself sprinting off after her.

Rogue heard the thud of bare feet against the wooden floors of the hall. Her heart raced at the thought of Bobby running after her. But what if it was just another student... one of those newly recruited ones that always ended up running everywhere because they knew where nothing was and feared being late. Either way she was at her door. Grasping the knob with a black gloved hand she slowly began to turn it, but just as the door opened a slim crack the running student caught up to her, spinning her about face and holding her firmly by arm and waist.

Scared to look up at who had caught her she slowly lifted her gaze to meet the nervous, determined eyes of Bobby. Her breath began to grow heavy as his had already become from his sprint. "Bobby..." she managed to pipe out breathlessly.

Through his hastened breath Bobby managed a wry smile, heart pounding against his rib cage like a hammer. Somehow words escaped him, possibly for the first time in his life, and something told him maybe it wasn't the time for fancy phrases or any explainations. His hand slid down from where it clasped Rogue's arm, slipping his fingers between her own. Blue eyes flickered shut as he leaned in, cautiously pressing gently to Rogue's body, and returned the light kiss. He stepped back, opening his eyes once more which where teetering back on forth on a fence--undecidedly filled with hope and fear at the same time.

Rogue looked down at her feet as she tried to contain herself from smiling like a mad fool. She knew for a fact now that Bobby was into her, maybe in love with her like she was him. Lifting her sparkling green eyes to meet the seemingly warm blue ones of Bobby she smiled tilting her head to the side in a coy pose... debating whether or not to tell Bobby how she felt.

Bobby definitly seemed more anxious as Rogue stare into his eyes still tossing around the ideas of letting him know or not. Then tightening her grip on Bobby's hand she leaned into him and whispered. "Ah don't know how you're gonna take this and I pray that Ah'm safe in sain' it but Bobby... I want you... infact I need you... and this all sorta started once I got back- or maybe before then, and-" Rogue stopped babbling on in confusion as Bobby put a finger to her lips to silence her. "What Ah'm tryin' to say Bobby is... I think Ah've fallen in love with you."
