I'm currently watching Star Wars: The Force Revealed. For as bad as some of the scripts are there is an incredible amount of symbolism in these movies; little things that people have probably missed. No matter what anything thinks of the original and the prequels Lucas was genius. They are talking about things I never picked up. There is the obvious hero story of Luke. The Emperor chooses red, black and white (the guards, Vader and the Storm Troopers) which were the colors of the Blutfahne. I got the Nazi connection but didn't even see Vader's helmet as the German helmet. The symbolism of Anakin catching fire during the final confrontation between him and Obi-wan. The direct connections with the Fall of Rome (most of which I got but some stuff I didn't). Anakin's direct connection to Achilles and the Iliad. The Christian allegory. Just by itself, the overt color symbolism is incredible!
I am both amazed and disappointed in myself for not catching most of this stuff.
